They would exist if there were a demand for them, and could turn a profit.
Right now, there is neither the demand nor the advertiser support.

With a new generation of lower cost HD broadcasting equipment out (and equipment companies ready to provide easier financing and better $$ incentives), with many more radio receiver choices and Ford offering HD as a standard upgrade option (among other car companies; MBenz, BMW, Kia, etc.), and the ability to rebroadcast an HD on an analog translator; things are just getting fired up!
d21ofnj said:So that leaves.....4 OLDIES, 8,000 AC stations, and only 1 classic rock, 1 modern rock, and 1 Top 40 (Hot AC in my opinion) station in the area. No Rhythmic CHR, no Dance, no Urban?! Out 97 should be on the air more often![]()

(Power 101 - 1996 & 97 / CD-100 - later 90s) Formats like these can get a lot of loyal listeners, but are very hard to sell to advertisers. Back in '96 at Power, we had a lot of listeners, a lot of callers, and a number of vocal listeners who were annoyed when the format changed... I'm sure CD/Cool had the same issue later on... Still, for a standalone station or smaller group, it's hard to justify a format that is difficult to pitch to advertisers.
SHimes100 said:Hd... hmmm what would the total cost for that be in this economy? and how many radio's are hd ready now?...1%-2%???
What's the roi on that?
