107.9 Going CHR?

As anyone ever noticed that Univision Radio in DFW changes formats like most of us change socks?

Since the city grade for this signal is over and done at LBJ and points south, you'd think they'd focus on a format serving the 2 million people where the signal dominates, Collin, Denton, and the other northern cities and counties. Forget about Dallas county and super serve the northern suburbs, some of the fastest growing, highest income counties in the state...
Not an easy task for sure, but making serious money never is easy, if it was everybody would be rich.

It could be possible. Though I highly doubt they'll dump the successful "Radio H2O" programming after almost a year. Rarely, such a circumstance has happened like with "Sunny 97.1" and "FM Rock 93.3" which were both "dismal", though stranger things have happened from time to time. Could be another 107.9 station somewhere in the US. Who knows. The Facebook page says "Your new home for hits", it didn't specify which metro area.

Also, think back to the 2 separate rumors about Clear Channel dumping the current incarnation of '97.1 The Eagle' for either "97.1 The Bull" and another name of a potential AC competitor for KVIL. Both website names were registered, but neither transition happened.

Would going from Radio H2O to "Hot 107.9" really be much of a change? The positioner that's been mentioned seems like the music and presentation would be about the same. So, maybe, it's just a matter of the H2O branding not being necessary any longer?

I totally agree...

They just switch it to Hot 107.9 at noon. Any bets on how long this one may last? Still think they want to go urban but I guess we have to wait and see.

I wouldn't call 107.9 urban. It sounds rhythmic like Power 98.3 in Phoenix and Power 106 in LA.

They played a live mix all last night ... EDM in one hour and hip-hop in the next hour from when I listened. It'll take more listening to decide if they're going one way or the other, or trying to straddle the fence.

They're doing a mix weekend. All of the DJs mixing are from 98.5 The Beat in San Antonio. Their sister station.

Problem with this station: It has the potential to be a great rhythmic, but Univision isn't putting any effort into it. Only two air staffers, no mixers, and no website, I just don't see how they are going to survive in a market as competitive as this one.

Really wish they'd go EDM and revive the old KDL name. Timing seems right right now with EDM's popularity, and a niche format with a dedicated audience is exactly what a signal like that needs.
