107.9 Jamz (WUIL) Sold out from under LMA-er?

Was WUIL sold to DWS Inc.(WDWS, WHMS & News-Gazette) as opposed to it's LMAing company Pendleton/DVH? They had a right to purchase the station for 1.5M when they signed an LMA agreement with the owner (Champaign Partners) and now the owner has sold it to DWS. What gives??

The current question I have is this : Why has WUIL been off the air for over a week now???

to alienate all the listeners and probably the electric bill not paid??
maybe the owners fighting over who pays the bill.....

aw what a mess =/

WUIL was a very popular station in C-U according to the 12+ Arbitrons, and taking it off the air might be a way to start fresh and minimize a backlash.

Personally, I think DWS should have kept the format in place, but rhythmic CHR, AC, and news/talk probably would have been a tough combo to sell. Does anyone know what DWS plans to do with the station?

Ten bucks says it resurfaces as WDWS-FM within the month either as a 24/7/365 simulcast of 1400 or as a sports talker with some p-b-p programming.

Your ten bucks is getting closer to a sure bet. It was reportedly on for a few hours parallel to WDWS this morning.

Collect your $10. They're on this morning with a WDWS 1400 simulcast in which they mention WUIL...stereo light but no stereo separation.

Alright! Got my imaginary 10-spot and am patting myself on the back for suggesting today's conventional wisdom.

No, I'm not an insider--am 500 miles from Champaign-Urbana. I will admit to being a WDWS Alumni, but that was decades ago.

Instead I've watched company-after-company do the same thing with their AM news-talkers, most recently just an hour-or-so up I-74 from C-U at equally-venerable WJBC, Bloomington-Normal. No doubt the guys on South Neil took notice. And though it was deep into the process, they may have been further encouraged by (WTOP-FM/Washington PD) Jim Farley's interview a few weeks ago in which he referred to the ton of evidence they (Bonneville) had that back in TOP's AM/FM years, the Arbitron's kept showing a much younger skew on the FM side for the same identical programming.

Bottom line: If you want your news-talker to die off, keep it on AM only. If you want to suddenly get younger, slap it on FM.

As a big fan of WIBC 93.1 FM, I don't consider N/T on FM to be a waste at all. WIBC's numbers have come up since the move to FM. Of course, the AM signal is now languishing in 2 share land doing sports mostly off the ESPN bird. But the heritage N/T format is thriving and has even been spiffed up and sounds several market sizes "bigger" than when it was on AM.

That said, WUIL 107.9 just flipped to "U Rock 107.9" with a Classic Rock format. Sorry about the $10...

Damn! Well--easy come, easy go.

Classic Rock? Didn't these guys watch Saga's CR adventure?

Hey, these kids today just can't get enough rock from before they were born...

In truth, it does give them something to pitch at the beers & bars--and that's good money in C-U... and some (slightly) younger male numbers to balance out their female numbers on HMS. I see the logic. Kind of.

Funny that WQQB and WUIL was close in #s, but WCZQ was still above both in arbs.
Hmmm...

Guess we will see what happens with 93.5
