Collect your $10. They're on this morning with a WDWS 1400 simulcast in which they mention WUIL...stereo light but no stereo separation.
Alright! Got my imaginary 10-spot and am patting myself on the back for suggesting today's conventional wisdom.
No, I'm not an insider--am 500 miles from Champaign-Urbana. I will admit to being a WDWS Alumni, but that was decades ago.
Instead I've watched company-after-company do the same thing with their AM news-talkers, most recently just an hour-or-so up I-74 from C-U at equally-venerable WJBC, Bloomington-Normal. No doubt the guys on South Neil took notice. And though it was deep into the process, they may have been further encouraged by (WTOP-FM/Washington PD) Jim Farley's interview a few weeks ago in which he referred to the ton of evidence they (Bonneville) had that back in TOP's AM/FM years, the Arbitron's kept showing a much younger skew on the FM side for the same identical programming.
Bottom line: If you want your news-talker to die off, keep it on AM only. If you want to suddenly get younger, slap it on FM.
