Interesting read on Lance’s Domain Insight, today. This points to a hunch of mine a long time ago, but is there room? Will they be in it to win it? I think iHeart is better in the format than Audacy and has more Star power.
Oh darn, it's behind a pay wall. I take it that you are referring to Hot AC. I know iHeart has a successful "Star" in SF and San Diego.Interesting read on Lance’s Domain Insight, today. Without giving too much away, I'm not optimistic there is for a number of reasons. This points to a hunch of mine a long time ago, but is there room? Will they be in it to win it?
When I said iHeart is better than Audacy, I meant CHR. The End is complacent and KZZO’s music is CHR in a Hot AC body. IHeart needs a younger format more than a Classic Hits station. It should give KCCL continued own the format.Without giving too much away, I'm not optimistic there is for a number of reasons.
That leaves 35-54 which means death to radio down the road. The dial in Sacramento is full. Everything is done. You don't waste a signal like that on a niche format. CHR is struggling right now but it could be an interesting time to get in when the competitors aren't dominant. I just don't know that the large groups are really interested in putting on young stations in 2022. They mostly seem to be sticking with 35+ formats when they launch something new.

Instead of keeping that second AC or third rock station try something that appeals to younger people. And according to the Jacobs info it’s not Alternative. They’re already gone to satellite. Think differently. Take chances. Our industry predominately does formats that appeal to boomers, programmed by boomers with boomer talent. I like boomers. I am one. I’m out of demo. The youngest boomer is 58. Get people, consultants, researchers and formats that appeal to listeners who are 25-34, if not 18-24.
True, but I'm not sure that running a CHR in a market where the heritage CHR is middle of the pack and it's Hot AC competitor is equally as established. I don't see iHeart disrupting things in the market with another CHR, regardless of the power behind it.Here's a quote from an exec with Hubbard Broadcasting today in RadioInk
But if this is to come true, might we find KSTE AM moving to sports talk?????????I hope not but I may lose to your bet.
This extended stunting with random drops is going too far and ruining a potentially exciting launch. It’s time to s@@t or get off the pot. Of course, if it becomes right wing talk or country I’ll tune out when I visit up there.
