1160 is nearly unlistenable

Wow.

When I saw this thread I was thinking it was about a weak signal! :D

I agree with the comments about the latest shuffling of shows being a step down for listeners.

Especially the part about taking Savage out of the 7-10 position. I really enjoyed listening to his commentary at that time of day. By 7 or 8 at night I've pretty much had all the Reporting I can stand. His quirky commentary just seems to put things in a better perspective.

But only at that time of day.

(Can't get a signal during the day)

Anyone else notice how the Reds have seriously jacked up ticket prices on Friday and Saturday games?.....and now charge a $2 surcharge for tickets bought at the ball park on the day of the game? Crazy.

Supply and demand.

We have seen other stations that delay Savage do well against Rush. In many cases, the audience doesn't care.
If there was more night signal, we'd air him live. But, who knows, he may end up live at Noon.

The reason why we got Savage was that KRC was going to warehouse him, in favor of Dave Ramsey.

The guy that should be really ticked is Mark Levin. Frankly, they passed him right up, when they added Dave.
Seems like Levin should have had right of first refusal.

That is why i believe 55 only added Dave to try and take 1160 down. Tells me that they are not that secure about
their position in the market place. Maybe that is why they don't power down at night.

Gladly, Dave Ramsey is gone, Dennis Miller is salvation, Savage is lame a day late, Huckabee coming will insure I tune back to 550 at that time, as I listen to Miller religiously 3-5 DAILY. The spots on the station are insipid, homemade, insulting, and obviously produced by low-rent amateurs doing fake Australian accents. Jeff Piecoro sounds very feminine, and has a weirdly female way of pronouncing "c's" and "k's" in his overplayed, played-out ad spots. What is wrong with Eric Deter's voice? Can he speak clearly ever? The fake gravelly hardass voice is totally contrived. Clear your throat, take a lozenge, O great oracle.
This station has lost its marbles since the New Year began. They also now proudly boast more in a row ad spots than ANY Clear channel station. Nobody seems to be listening/calling in to their live programming, and who the hell is the old hillbilly geezer that does the NKU basketball broadcasts?
R. Lee Ermey much? Not listening anymore/never supporting any of their myriad of sponsors. Small time, amateurish and tons of pregnant pauses/dead air on live shows.

While I do agree that airing Savage a date late (or THREE days late if it's Monday) is ridiculous, the rest of your complaints just show that you've never had a chance to hear true local radio. See, I was one of those amateur production directors you speak of, who had to deal with a drunk GSM who would bring me copy points written on a cocktail napkin. We did spec spots, took orders to get spots on the air TODAY, and had many local businesses on the air. I was on salary, and sometimes i was at the station until 10PM, doing production. We didn't have national spots that ran ad nauseum, about bloated soccer Moms (Hi! you've reached Claire...leave a message!) or scheister insurance agencies (LIVE from Progressive! Hi, Flo here again...) to the point where listeners hate the advertiser with a passion. We also didn't need stupid gimmicks like "Sweet Jack" to take up the slack on the bottom line. Why? because we knew how to write and produce creative spots that worked for our clients, who loved us. I have heard stories recently that certain "local stations" won't even return calls from local businesses... I guess they can't be bothered. Feel free to jump off a cliff, and take Claire and Flo with you. Thanks. ::)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think at one time Hannity and Levin were pretty much connected at the hip when ABC was the syndicator. You wanted Hannity, in a lot of cases you were stuck with Levin. Hannity got that hybrid contract a few years ago from Premiere/ABC and it seems that he is more of a Premiere property now while Levin is pure ABC/Cumulus and that linkage no longer exists.

I don't think Clear Channel is looking to deepen the pockets of one their prime competitors now that Cumulus seems to be trying to leverage their network platform with more talk offerings as well as other competition.

You're right. Just like when if you took Rush, they would do the "cram down" with Dr. Dean.

Good Move on giving Wildman Walker a try out on The Other Guys Show on Friday and the following Monday.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/tv/2012/03/13/wildman-walker-returns-to-radio-friday/

Dennis “Wildman” Walker returns to the airwaves on Friday — the day after his “non-compete” agreement expires with Clear Channel/WEBN-FM.

Walker will be a substitute co-host 5-7 p.m. Friday on “The Other Guys” sports show on “Real Talk 1160″ WQRT-AM with Kevin Couch. He’ll be back again on Monday with Couch, while usual co-host Rick “The Brick” Ucchino recovers from abdominalplasty surgery.

Walker was fired by WEBN-FM in September after 26 years (along with Bob “The Producer” Berry). He called me from watching Reds spring training games in Goodyear, Ariz., to get the word out that he’s coming back on the air.

“I’m not wasting any time. Thursday it (the non-compete) ends. How’s that for timing?” Wildman said.

Well, the credit goes to our team in Cincinnati.

I hate it when a good, talented person gets kicked to the curb.

Thanks for your service, clear out your desk. We'll give you a whole half hour.

Now, that is not a quote of what happened to Mr. Walker. I don't know how that separation went. But, it has to many a friend of mine.

I once had the building security guard watch me (and three others) clean out our desks. Gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Two of the toughest mass firings we saw was with K Mart and GM. K Mart just handed out boxes and supervised all move outs.
If you got 30 minutes, you were lucky and there was no time to say so long to your coworkers.
At GM, they did almost the same thing, EXCEPT, the guys with company cars handed in their keys, immediately and were sitting on the curb, with their belongings, until they could get a ride home.
You wonder if there's a better way.

GOOD MOVE for Real Talk 1160, and an opportunity for Wildman to re-enter a quickly-depreciating industry. I'm so-happy that radio licensees outside the "Big Five" are broadcasting in Cincinnati. I make a concerted effort to SUPPORT THEM [and their advertisers] – WQRT and WDJO! If we enjoy these listening opportunities, we need to visit the clients that invest advertising $$$ on these stations, and TELL THEM that we're in their stores 'cause they showed faith in these stations to return an investmest in their Marketing decisions.
btw, GOOD signal improvement, WQRT!

Best wishes with your changes.. Glad to see the "little guy" trying to press forward. Seems like these boards are always full of criticism for the little guy yet those same people complain that "There are too many Clear channel, CBS, Cumulus stations"

Our "kindness" is rewarded by the fact that YOU ARE ON THE AIR and providing a viable option. It's generally "cool" to support the underdog, but in the case of radio broadcasting – it is patent necessity! It should be apparent by now, that the CCs and "Clouds" of the radio world don't give passing flatulence about their listeners – and [sadly] even ADVERTISERS [note the factual charge of un-returned calls].
In stark contrast, companies like the enterprise you are involved with DO! We and others removed from a professional association need to step-up and pay-back the free service you offer us by simply SUPPORTING YOU!

In typical Cincinnati fashion, instead of addressing professional issues like local yokel ad spots/production, pregnant brain fade pauses, and blank air for minutes, the first guys to reply here said "turn it off". AWESOME! Evolve much? Oh and 55? 700? I will listen to whatever I want. But thanks for the suggestion.
I was going to comment, "sounds like a typical Bengals fan response" and lo and behold the member had "Bengals" in his moniker! Brilliant!
"Hey buddy, if you don't like the Bengals, move outta town"! Exactly. Thanks for validationg my original point-lameness and uber-mediocrity is sought and supported in Cincinnati on many levels. I listen to plenty of other non CC/Cumulus radio and they seem to hire hosts with a knowledge of pronunciation and grammar. Duh. I know, I know, I must be a CC devotee/employee to criticize 1160. Riiiight.
Got no ax to grind, try and rationalize my comment as a crazy whatever the f*** you want, thing is, 1160 is unlistenable. Technically and production-wise.
Bad shuffling on the programming and allowing the local 'talent' to be weak hacks verbally. Truly a Fisher-Price Mickey Mouse radio station. How many times can you claim "mind-share" from an ad spot when it's simply overplaying a non-clever amateurish ad from a car repair client. Oh, big rule in "PRO" radio, try to dissuade the client from voicing their own spots.

Who's paying you to troll?

Exactly. Someone HAS to be paying me to "troll". It can't be that my points are legit and I'm a citizen who listens to talk radio. Again classic Cincy regional summation. Lay off the chili.

Brilliant analysis, but I'm from Chicago...

I guess its slightly better to troll than to be a troll...
