1180 off the air

Thad is on a rampage. He is on the air (well Ustream) reading the details of the suit right now. Calling Pollack every name in the book.

This is the STA POLLACK BROADCASTING COMPANY filed with the FCC today:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101488728&formid=910&fac_num=52906

Exhibit 1
Description: REASON FOR TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS

POLLACK BROADCASTING COMPANY TOOK WPLX OFF THE AIR ON FEBRUARY 15, 2012 IN CONNECTION WITH THE TERMINATION OF A TIME BROKERAGE AGREEMENT WITH A PROGRAMMER WHO WAS SEVERELY BEHIND ON HIS PAYMENTS UNDER THE TBA AND WHO HAD COMMITTED VARIOUS OTHER INFRACTIONS OF THE AGREEMENT. THE LICENSEE IS CONSIDERING A SET OF OPTIONS FOR RETURNING THE STATION TO THE AIR. HOWEVER, INASMUCH AS SUCH DECISIONS MUST BE MADE WITH CARE, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT WPLX MAY NOT RETURN TO THE AIR UNTIL MORE THAN 30 DAYS HAS ELAPSED FROM THE SUBJECT DATE OF SUSPENSION. ACCORDINGLY, STA TO REMAIN SILENT FOR AS LONG AS A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS IS HEREBY REQUESTED.

On Ustream now, Thad is also claiming he and a business associate offered Pollack $400.000 dollars for the station and he turned it down.
$400,000 doesn't sound like a lot of money for the station.

I think $400k is high...

The new 830, an AM licensed to Memphis with an arguably BETTER signal, went for $200k. Sure, 830 is a daytimer, but 1180 really is, too. 1180 may have some real estate and some personalty, but it's not worth a lot.

It's arguable, in any event.

The language in Pollack's filing, "various other infractions" is interesting. Again, the Contract would be fun reading.

I was curious, so I checked...

Pollack paid $250,000 for WPLX. Now, he was required to do some construction on it, BUT it came with the 96.7 translator that was sold to Clear Channel.

So, yeah... $400k is high. And, to be realistic, there are a limited number of people who would be interested in owning a stand-alone daytimer, no matter what the price.

I can't help but ask though What was Pollack thinking when he agreed to lease to Thaddeus? That sounds like a bad move from the start. ::)

A couple days ago it was very distorted... I've noticed it not as full sounding as some other music am's. My guess it that they are streaming it down from Kennett unless Pollack still has the office out in East Memphis.
