While scanning the AM band this afternoon I heard WLIB 1190-AM om the air. I don't know when they returned to the air. The post about 98.7 WEPN-FM said they had been off the air for a while. Music sounded good. Couldn't tell that it was an AM station.
If you go back over 20 years to the IBOC AM study lead by Bob Orban and presented at the NAB, his conclusion was that there were essentially no mass market consumer radios or car radios on the market that did not roll off between 4 kHz and 6 kHz to such an extent that broadcasting anything over 5 kHz was of no consequence.
