1230 The Breeze-second to last WECK thread ever! ;-)

And I believe the stream is working again now.

Not for me right now. It geoes to it, then says "No stream" and now "Stopped". I'm beginning to think this stream is a mythical creature. :D
The last two days I tried to listen there was either no audio or the feed was from WCBS-AM.

I'm enjoying the music. Been flipping a lot between 1230 AM and 1270 AM.

Enjoying the tunes you hear on both stations that just don't get much (if any) airplay on any of the FM stations in WNY.

I need proof this station exists, at least in streaming. :D

Each time I've tried in recent days, it comes up "No Stream", including right now. I haven't checked the MLB schedule, but I'm pretty sure the Yankees aren't playing a game at 4:30 AM on a Wednesday morning.

Is this the proper URL?

It's what you get from the weck1230.com website. But there are "Breeze" logos all over, including on the player linked above.

Today (25 August @1:50) the stream is up and functional. I will agree that the stream hasn't always been consistent. I hope that they're just working out glitches. They seem to be running some ads, which I assume is a good sign. While I like much of the music mix, I'm thinking it could be more diverse (possibly similar to an EOR of the old days).

So my son asked me the other day "where is Brad Riter working these days?"

I don't know, so I started doing some research online.

Didn't find Brad's new employer, but did find this article that I didn't read when Nick Mendola resigned from WECK.

Mendola and Riter said they were going to stay close and in touch. Anything new to report on that?

I thought maybe one or both of them would apply at 97 Rock for the morning show/Bills game day producer job:

Either Riter or Mendola would be a good addition to the Shredd & Ragan show on WEDG or Norton's long distance morning drive show. But it wouldn't be a surprise to learn that each has found something better outside of radio. They may believe the Citadel situation is toxic due to the forthcoming Cumulus takeover.

Hindsight being 20-20, Dick Greene never gave Riter a fighting chance. To use a sports metaphor, his team was down 9-2 in the third inning, he was brought in from the bullpen and threw 12 pitches before being yanked.

Mendola had a poignant response when he commented, "They offered me a sales job. I'm not going to sell time for an AM music station." Read between the lines and you get Mendola's drift. Who could blame him.

Tom Schuh is trying to formulate a product as a part time consultant while Greene cuts costs and re-arranges the deck chairs on ship that's taking on water, listing and might even be on the block along with WLVL. Not rumor-mongering, just speculating.

As to working for the soon to be Cumulus cluster, when a company talks publicly about effecting $51 million in synergies (aka cost cutting) as soon as it takes over, it doesn't instill confidence in present or potential employees. If Citadel could guarantee employment after the sale, they might reach out to W**K's Frank Miller who has proved to be a competent and creative producer. Whether you're a person or a corporation (oops sorry, corporations are people) "uncertainty" creates adversity to growth and change. Given the opportunity, Miller might have reservations about moving to 50 James Casey.

As a long time follower of this blog I want to ask a question. Has anyone listened to WLVL lately? I don't think Dick Greene would part with it any time soon. I could be wrong but it seems to be doing quite well. Week days it's local and live talk until 1 o'clock, then they switch to Dennis Miller. On the weekends they have Nascar plus UB sports will be back shortly. But then, what do I know!

Finally, a working WECK stream! First time it's come up with a stream since I've been trying. I was beginning to think it was blocked in Ohio...

Your first song winner - Steve Winwood's "Higher Love".

Wait, the Yankees are still playing, is this a stream-only feed? I thought I heard something in the background, maybe bleed-over from the Yankees network feed?

Very good. I was just excited because it was the first time it didn't say "No stream"!

In quiet periods, you can hear the Yankees feed bleeding through. Not enough to actually keep up with the game (which is fine with me :D).

Does anyone know if the Sunday night guy is still on WECK/Breeze? I'm talking about the paranormal show that's on late Sundays. The show hasn't been on the last two wweks and I'm wondering if he got let go too.

Does anyone here know?

Paul

Just came across this thread tonight. Went to the WECK website. Terrible! Stream is also very bad, and the music mix and its automation flow is awful. Is this some kind of a joke?

Mark Henry's Edge of the Unknown returned Sunday night at 9 after a couple weeks off.

We can't carry Yankee games on line so we run some of of our music on a "backup" stream during the games (think iPod on shuffle :)

Try listening another time to get a truer feel for what the station sounds like.

The website is still a work in progress. Please let me know what you'd like to see.

Thanks,
Tom

Listening now Tom. I'm sorry, but it sounds like the streaming computer is plugged into a transistor radio. Dead air between songs, unless that's on purpose.

I listen almost every morning before I leave for work on a Logitech SqueezeBox (from Mass.) and it sounds great.

Have never tried to listen during a Yankees game so far.

I've been enjoying the rather ecclectic programming {Never thought I'd be listening to AM again!} 'till the 6 o'clock local news tonite where they told me all 'bout how I could see the Stanley Cup at the Zoo today between like 12:30 and 2. Repeating the noon newscast without editing it was a real drag......at 6. C'mon guys...pay attention!!
