1230 The Breeze-second to last WECK thread ever! ;-)

It's not the elephant, it's probably the owner. Give the consultant/PD credit. The man presents his case here, puts up with the criticism and offers his opinions. What is the target demo? How many listeners in that target demo will break away from their present favorite music stations (most likely FM) to listen to music on AM? More critically, how successful can a sales person be selling the Breeze to a local merchant or local agency? Programming and sales would appear to be a Sisyphean task.

To me, the elephant in the room is not the content, it's not even the idea that the format wouldn't attract some listeners. The elephant in the room is the idea that somebody---ANYbody, is going to find it. WHO in God's name is gonna find this format on 1230/AM in 2011?

Nobody's even looking.

The only on-air personality we hear now is Tom Donahue.

Is he going to have a co-host? Who is going to eventually voicetrack the midday and PM drive shifts?

Whatever happened to Tom's co-host in the morning?

Tom will be flying solo for the near future. Christina Abt is still involved in a number of media ventures around the area. We're working on plans for additional hosted shifts.

Anything new?

I know it is Tom D. in the morning.

Anyone signed up to do other shifts during the day or on the weekend?

WoW! This station reminds me of an even MORE oldies version of an early 90's FM radio station. WBUF in it's Mix 92.9 days!
I'm surprised they don't say "From the oldies to the newies and all the inbetweenies".

Get a live body in there for evenings, requests and all, and I'll give this station the thumbs up!

Thanks, Yezi. Coming from you that's a real compliment! We're hoping to add more staff if the thing takes off :)

What's the timeframe of the format? What year do the songs begin and what year is the cut off date for requests?

I think the oldest song is "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs (1962 IIRC, my Whitburn book's at home!)
We do play a few currents and recurrents. It's not so much about era as it is a sound that fits together.

Kevin O'Connell... now THERE is a name!

Nice work Tom. That will help bring more attention to the station.

Tom D in AM drive and Kevin O in PM drive works for me, and I think it will for others as well, especially when it comes to advertisers.

This station is going to break the 1.0 mark in the next ratings book and will get bigger and better as time moves along.

Excellent hire.

FWIW, I'm out of market but curiosity brought me to check out 1230 The Breeze on-line and it is the best music mix I have heard on any radio station in a long, long time. For me, it's a throwback to what radio was when I was growing up. The musical genre didn't matter, the way it flowed made it work. It's like a pop version AAA formatted station. It's all about the songs. And the fact that it has a very deep playlist is so refreshing.

Makes my work day much more enjoyable! Keep up the good work! ;D

Wish I could hear it. Went to the station's stream yesterday at about 4 PM and "No stream". There wasn't a day Yankees game on a Tuesday afternoon, was there?

Thanks for the compliments. How you describe it is how we intend it. Response has been very positive so far.

And I believe the stream is working again now.

I was listening to the stream from 8:30 this morning until 4:30 at work here in Massachusetts. It did kick out around Noon but I was able to get right back on-line.
