1250-ESPN Ratings Were Plummeting

While the ratings seemed a little weird, especially when a Uniontown oldies station managed to get better than a 2 share and even top KDKA-FM (yes, I know, the overall ratings may not mean THAT much), and WBGG surely had to have more listeners than Frankie Day and his "keeping the oldies alive (and hoping listeners will come up with a five ... dollars that is)" on WKFB, I think ESPN's insistence on national fare on its Pittsburgh station didn't help AM 1250's ratings. Between CBS making its commitment at FM 93.7 and Clear Channel maintaining its throwaway Fox Sports Radio outlet, Disney's attitude probably was too Mickey Mouse for this market. But what do I know?

The specific time frame for the comparison was August 19- September 15 and the biggest difference was in morning show numbers.

Mike and Mike always had an audience here, but they spent most of the summer (at the direction of corporate) talking LeBron James, then most of the first half of August had fill-ins for one or both of the hosts almost every day.

Cume had indicated that people were sampling the Fan all along but not staying there. Then they moved Gianotti to mornings and it was game over.

I'm not so sure about that. While 970 has more cume listeners, 770 has been ahead in AQH share since the PPM
entered the market.

I would concur with the above. Personally I really like Mike and Mike, but after so much Lebron James talk I had to
go dial surfing for something else until after he signed. This has never been a good NBA town. Hockey is our 2nd. choice
here after Them Stillers, and it barely gets a mention on ESPN.

Also I think that 1250 had experienced some year-over-year talent erosion, particularly on the weekend shows.

Hockey doesn't get mentioned on ESPN because the NHL is on a competing network. ESPN only cares about sports that are carried on ESPN.

Nah. This is the time of year when they begin to morph from the Brett Favre Programming Network to the LeBron James Programming Network. ;D

I agree with you Parttimer. WPGB really needs a better pre and post game show. In this case, I think someone like Stan, who is one of the most credible sportscasters in the industry. Not knocking Rocco in anyway and I think he should be involved in some way, but you can hear the inexperience. With Stan, you get a solid and respected show.
