1260 Now Streaming

Not only has Newark's WNWK made it back to ratings in Arbitron, but it is streaming on-line at Sabrosaradio.com. It is apparently a simulcast with 1520 in Maryland/DC.

The audio is farily good quality.

The little station that could. I've scanned passed WNWK a couple of times. It sounds OK. I listened for a few minutes. It's not for me, but they've apparently found a underserved group, who will listen in to AM radio (as per the 12+ numbers) and I'm assuming get enough spot dollars to at least pay the bills. Now on line streaming. For a small AM station it sounds like they are doing just fine. Hopefully this success lasts as it would be great to have a on air 1260 in Newark again, even if I can't understand a word they say.

That brings up a musical question, at least when I've tuned in I heard what I'll call Mariarchy type music (sp), which I believe is more a Mexican style and not bad to listen to. What sort of music does the Puerto Rician and Cuban Hispanics prefer? Does WNWK play all sorts of Hispanic Music or are they targetting only Mexican Hispanics. I know that the various Hispanic groups have different cultural stuff, so it would make sense that they'd have different styles of music as well.

When WNRK had Jose on Saturday mornings, then later Friday afternoons, the music was more of a mix. Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, etc. He tried to please a broader base. I do not understand the difference, but being from Puerto Rico, he did, of course. And he had a good client base and brought in a lot of money for his three hour show.

WNWK appears to be going after the Mexican audience primarily. And that makes sense as the majority of the Spanish speaking population in this area seems to be from Mexico.

That raises a question. Should CC have gone that route with 1290? They tried FM in Philadelphia, that did not work, so they put the music on 1480, changing the calls from WDAS-AM to WUBA, and added the Phillies in Spanish. What if CC had put Hispanic music on WJBR-AM rather than going sports with the disaster that is now WWTX? In hindsight, it would have been a more profitable move.
