1290 one ups Butler

The Hog Sports Radio may do well, but did you guys hear the Pre-game show that aired last Saturday afternoon with Gary Campbell and Grant??????......WOW!!!!!!!!!

The audio was so bad!!!!!!...It sounded like their mic's were out and all of the audio was coming from a speaker blaring out of Razorback Stadium...

I have heard phone feeds that sounded better....

Somebody definately screwed that one up!!!!

Again, more reasons not to point and laugh when things happen. The loss to Ole Miss wasn't half as painful as the technical difficulties we had during the pregame show. You buy a $7,000 Tieline and end up having to do the whole show passing a cellphone around... that is frustrating. Maybe tin cans and string would have sounded better.. I don't know! But yes it wasn't a quality broadcast. Up in the AT&T Trough, it is pretty loud so Jon and Deke's ten ton sound system complicated the on-air sound even more! (Certainly not blasting our guys at the Eagle.. just saying... the sound system they have SURE does it's job!! Especially when we have been placed next to them by the powers that be!)

First time we have had problems on remote, but it will be better next week.

Gotta commend Grant here, he realizes when theres a problem and owns up to it.. and fixes it for the next time.. he actually cares about his station.. unlike, uh.. some other folks.. ;)

Keep up the good, hard work GM ;=)

As much as Jon and Deek would want to take credit...or probably do anyway...that set up is all AT&T and the U of A. They pretty much just show up and host the thing. Got to give them credit, though, they're great mc's.

Hey radioguybroadcasting, enlighten us. Who in your expert opinion is not owning up?

From everything Ive read, Butler Broadcasting.. they'll have problems and get their panties in a twist if someone rips on them, but then their employees come on here during the work day and rip other stations... while the Butler emplyoees are supposed to be working, their stations are dead air/off air and turning into an even bigger festering pile of cow pies

Greeting my fellow Arkansas Radio folks,

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I do work in Radio (little rock) and have to say....This has been some great reading. I think Grant is A+ and have great respect for him. I clearly have no idea who dday is.. but MR. dday, have you read back over these posts prior to posting your response?

You got busted, were pointed out, called out and then you actually responded by "tooting your own horn" with radio and records awards? I really don't know you, but can assure you, all the radio people I know would never EVER do what you just did...You sound frustrated and by doing what you just did/said, you are clearly throwing in the towel. Radio & Records is not the trade mag it once was...nonetheless, if you don't have the positive personality to go along with the awards, they really don't mean much. BTW, are you in sales? because Small Market Station of the Year is based on more than just programming...and it takes many people to win that award...not just one person...I can assure you, you did it with a team of people, but the way you wrote about it, it sounds like you are taking full credit for doing it by yourself. I might be wrong, you might have won(been nominated) those awards by yourself...but...well...you know...It takes a team...

Can someone post a little bio on dday? I am curious as to who he is and what he does? Is he a PD? Just curious.

Very well said!

DDay is the op's manager at Butler Broadcasting and is for all 3 stations. He is mad because people know what really goes on over there and he is frustrated!! He thinks he is king over there and he really is not. He puts all of his efforts into "The X" and ignores the 2 AM stations, and treats everyone like they don't matter. One day Butlers backer will not give him any more money and that company will be sold. Hope that helps

Ugly Ed, since your late to the party I will fill you in. Just go back a few threads and you will see Radioaircheck started the whole convo with a ripping of Butler, I came to the defense of Butler and pointed out that it is not always as it seems. Calling Grant and Vernon on "Press Row" Laurel and Hardy was bush-league, as was the whole ripping of Butler's operation. Your a PD right? believe me, you cannot IGNORE a radio station like The Fan and it get the numbers it has. Butler being a local owner means he pretty much has no "cap-ex" and very limited resources, so your left with doing the best with what you have. That means poor equipment that does not always function properly. As for my employees I value them highly and consider them the most important part of this operation being successful. Ask any of them, we hang out and are very good friends, maybe to a fault. As for anything else you may have to say regarding what I do or how I do it, not only do I not care but MAANNNNN I don't care. I will however give you big props for identifying yourself unlike the other gutless ***** on this board.

What does a local owner have to do with being on a very limited budget with no capital expenditures? Thats a very poor argument, being local, for having no money.. I know plenty of locally owned stations that have good equipment and keep everything in good shape.

Now, you're blaming bad programming on bad equipment.

It sounds like all you're doing is.. MAKING EXCUSES, and not owning up to the problem or fixing it!

If you go to All Access this week and look at the "10 Questions With...." segment, the News/Talk/Sports segment is focused on none other than The Hog and Grant Merrill. That is pretty big national attention (in the industry of course) for a start-up station.

Just read it! Grant had alot of good things to say, pretty intelligent, well said and thought out.

I can ask all I want for new equipment but if the owner who signs the checks does not have the money, guess what I get studly.

Also radioguybroadcasting, if you would like to come by the studio and discuss our operation then your more than welcome. But you don't have the nads to that do you?

I'm not in the market, but I know it very well... however, if I am in the area anytime... I will stop by to say hello to you, AFTER my visit to 2250 West Sunset Suite 3 in Springdale...where the real, humble, down to earth pros work.

You come across as one of the most smug, self absorbed individuals I've ever seen on these boards, Mr Day.

And Sorry to hear your owner won't spend money on what's needed.. thats a real big clue to what kind of operator he is!
