Tell that to most corporations/businesses out there. This contradicts your talk about investments and such a couple of posts back.

Huh?!?

This is a kind of circular reasoning that would be laughable if it weren't all too common. Plenty of costly business decisions are made every day on the basis of belief -- not certainty -- that investments can become profitable within a given period of time. Of course, such decisions rest on assumptions about revenues and costs, as well as the source of the financing, and presumably the investor believes that these are reasonable. But there is hardly any guarantee that they are correct. Our friend is well within his rights to question them.

> This is a business.

Indeed it is. But whose business sense has not developed? I give points to our friend for stopping to wonder about this.

I think you would find that Relevant Radio is not necessarily driven by the profit motive. It would seem to me that they see this as evangelization and that is their primary purpose. Remember also there are 1.5 million Catholic Christians in Nassau/Suffolk. That's a lot of potential donors.

Nobody on this thread seems to realize that Relevant Radio is a bit different than pretty much all of the other religious outlets out there. For one, the target audience is Catholics, not the Protestant target that Salem, K-Love, and others go after. And the format is talk radio; it's not the 15-minute "Focus on the Family"-style segments that are on pretty much all of the typical Christian outlets.

It's Relevant's first station in the Northeast, so the station will probably serve also as a testing ground to find out whether the format is able to attract listeners and therefore warrant expansion. Should Relevant be able to reach and captivate their audience, they'll have a success.

I wouldn't bet on any one of these. Relevant Radio's other O&O stations, if their calls are changed, usually go to calls with connections to the Catholic faith. One example is 100.1 WPJP (Pope John Paul), which is a Milwaukee rimshot; another is 1050 WJOK (With Jesus Our King) in Green Bay. I wouldn't expect the calls to stand for any of the "We Love Jesus" stuff that you'd probably see on one of Salem's stations.
