I was wondering how long ago WLEC flipped to an all sports format. I was in Sandusky a little over two years ago at Cedar Point
and WLEC had an American music classics format. I thought it was really something different, and even though I am in my late
20'S I kind of liked listening to it. We have nothing like it here in Chicago.

AM740 is a GREAT Station to listen to. Whoever is running it should be cloned and imported to the USA to run some stations here the way they should be run. I was visiting my parental units in Tennessee and listened to CHWO AM740 all the way back to Ohio on the way home. Great signal, great station!
 
Thanks alans, I actually listen to AM740 every night here in Chicago, I like the station a lot and it comes in very clear most nights.
I agree with you too YEKIMI I wish they would import whoever is running it to the U.S. to run some stations.
 
WLEC is celebrating it's 60th birthday today. If BAS buys will it live to see 61?

I don't get it.
 
Why is BAS going down the tubes? I have a feeling that WLEC still has alot of magic left in it no matter what happens. Is sports really the best format for the station?

Sports is the STRENGTH of the station. It outweighed any ratings that the standards format got, and took precedence over the format (at least in the sales dept. eyes) thanks to the skyrocketing demos.

That being said, if they keep it a sports station (which, judging by the lack of moves over at the Hut since BAS came in, they probably will) at LEAST make the switch to ESPN Radio... Fox Sports just doesn't do it for me.

WLEC to go to an all music format at the latest, Wednesday, March 14th. Rumored to be a '70's based adult hit. No live personalities except maybe the morning show, but that is yet to be determined. Rest will be beamed in just like WCPZ (Mix 1027) and WMJK (The Coast) are scheduled to be. All personalties have already been terminated since the LAM agreement went into effect on February 1st.

1. Get down off the caffeine, man.
2. Whatever they do, there will be Amber Alerts if they want to hold on to their license.
3. Anything with the word emo in it doesn't belong on the radio. Or anywhere else, for that matter.
4. Because this is the critical point, I must reiterate it - cut back on the caffeine. It's fine in small doses, but at the rate you appear to be consuming it, you're on a short road to a massive heart attack.
 
TR - Not sure what service they are going with. Not to speculate, but BAS is tied in tight with ABC, so that would make sense. But if they want to make a go of things, they might want to look at some other services, if indeed they are in this to make WLEC a more profitable station. ???
 
Thanks, Rick When I went on vacation at Cedar Point about 3 years ago I listened to WLEC, I am planning to go back this summer
it will be interesting to see how they sound when I go back. As much as I am a rock guy I still liked the music they used to play.
Unfortunately I was the only one my age that did ;D
 
Looks as if the switch has already happened. I tuned in to WLEC today and heard all music and no sports. I did hear a promo for the morning show for tomorrow so it appears that they are still live. WCPZ appears to still have a live morning show as well.

Go to timelessonline.com and type in 44870 for the zip code. You will see the new WLEC logo. So yes they are using ABC's Timeless format for the remainer of the day (if they are indeed keeping Mark Fogg/Steve Schoffner for the mornings). Big shock.

Oh and WCPZ's old CC website is still not only up, but ACTIVE in some parts! (The morning show page is up to date as of today)

WLEC's website bit the dust... its domain should be redirected to the Timeless Favorites page.
