I had some car problems fixed, and a bit of time after family business today, and drove down to Martindale.
Yes, there's a big Cutler real estate "for sale" sign out front.
Yes, the station is off the air, though there's a hum on 1520 basically within walking distance of the parking lot, enough to stop the scan on a car radio. Underneath, I heard WHBC (!) and a very weak WJMP depending on where I was parked (WHBC in the station parking lot, WJMP a block or two down Martindale)
VERY weak. WJMP put a static-y signal into southern Summit County with WINW gone, but it was far from listenable...much like it is in Akron NOW.
I'll leave it to those more technically inclined to explain why there was a hum on 1520 in the immediate area of the station, and the WHBC spill-over (it wasn't splash, it was a copyable signal, if weak).
All four towers are still there, though they very much look llke a stiff wind and more flooded ground could take 'em down. I didn't see any evidence of a long wire, but I wasn't really looking hard for it.
The trip down there gave me a chance to pick up WIVM's DTV signal, though I had to drive a bit farther east to get a lock on it...the tower is nearly in Alliance.
