1530 Is Amateurish

Why don't they carry ESPN overnight?

Brother Stair pays more...

Because Ralph Gordon Stair (I refuse to call that heretic a "Brother" lol) has had a contract with WCKY dating for nearly two decades. If not longer.

WCKY has sold out their overnight hours to preachers and baby-chick salesman for eons. It used to start at 11:30PM weeknights (and at 8:30PM on Saturdays!) when 1530 had the WSAI calls and standards format.

In fact, WCKY and WWVA/Wheeling are the only two CC AM stations I know of that still engage in this practice. Others like WRVA/Richmond and WLAC/Nashville gave it up in the 1990s.

I agree, Where are the live sports dates every 20 minutes? Where's the local programming in morning drive? I say program 1530 like the old WBOB 1160. That was an entertaining lineup.

It will never ever ever ever happen. "Mike & Mike" is a must-carry show if you are an ESPN affiliate. (Even with their TV simulcast on ESPN2 and being featured on every other Bristol-based property that ever existed...)

Plus CC clearly has had no interest in being local in mornings after "Homer" was emasculated in 2008 or so.

I used to talk to Chuck Adair at LAC all the time. He was the king of skywave.
Doesn't WWL still sell the "wave"? I remember WOAI and KKOB used to cash in on theirs as well.

WWL goes with the Preacher Creatures on weekend overnights... weeknights were phased out long ago.

KXEL/1540 Waterloo is another 50kW station that still 'sells the wave' every night. WWKB/1520 Buffalo briefly did it in the late 90s before ending it completely around 2003 or so.

You're right about WWL.

I knew an agency guy that got in trouble for billing his client for airings that never occurred on WWL.

The client kept sending tapes for weeknight air play and after quite a while, the station called the Ministry to ask why they were wasting their money on sending the programs. The Ministry was under the impression that the programs were playing, The Ministry had been paying the agency with the unscrupulous agent keeping all of the money. The obvious red flags should have been that the Ministry had not been getting any new donor response. Furthermore, their current donors should have tipped them off.

Yesterday during Mo's show we were treated to several minutes of Lindsay and Mo competing in a spelling be while Lindsay giggled like a teenager...

Sorry, Rambo, hate to call you out on the carpet here, but... when talking about a "spelling bee," it is important to have the correct spelling of "spelling bee". ;D

By the way, WWZN ("The Zone") is Boston is another sports "station" (I believe they dabble more in regular talk radio these days, though they still carry some sports programming - they're more or less a hybrid right now) that carries Mr. Stair's overnight preachfest.

...and (to continue the corrections) shouldn't "is Boston" be "in Boston"? (Leave the "is" to Bill Clinton ;D.)

(couldn't pass that up; I'll go away now...)

Not the worst error I've made on the Boston board of late... love the "is" gag, btw... ;D
