Thanks for clearing that up, I didnt know they simulcasted 790,,, That seems a little stupid though since 790 has a good signal in Shelby county. I dont disagree that Spanish on the signal would be an okay choice since it is a niche format and would serve an underseved demograph in Shelby County. They need to quit pretending its a Louisville station though... Not even close. I think even the E-town stations like WQXE and Star 107.3 have a better signal in THE VILLE than 101.7,,,,, Am I wrong? The signals for the E-town stations are pretty good down on the Gene Snyder south loop.

101.7 has such a weak signal, I cant even pick it up in dowtown on a GE super radio. It gets squashed out by 101.3 and 102.3. 101.7 will never be able to compete in the Jefferson County market. They should have never moved the stick out of Jeffersontown. Doesnt 101.7 simulcast THE FOX out in Shelbyville? Thats all 101.7 is good for is to simulcast a weak station that doesnt make it out east. They need to just use 101.7 for a Shelbyville station, it doesnt have a usable signal in THE Ville. ::)

You need to go study the thread about WZZX. 101.7 is the Shelbyville station. They didn't "move it out of the Ville," but the Shelbyville station traded frequencies with the J-town station.

You're not supposed to be able to get it downtown. It's a station that Clear Channel never should have bought in the first place. It came in the package with the Frankfort stations that CC bought from Commonwealth.

101.7 is totally irrelevant to them now other than the fact that it covers Shelby, Henry, and Spencer counties at night, which 790 does not do. It was useful to help appease Tom Jurich after UK bought the rights to be the primary sports act on WHAS, since moving the Cards to 790 was clearly a downgrade, especially when they do directional and 1 KW at night when most of the basketball games are played. Besides, what else were they going to do with it?

That station is supposed to be a mom and pop station for Shelbyville: Do police reports, a trading post, play spots for Ken-Tex Barbecue and cover the Shelby County Rockets. Maybe now that Clear Channel is going private and Clear Channel is selling it, someone will use it to restore full-power local service to Shelby County.

Is UofL sports in a contract with Clear Channel? If not, I'm surprised they didn't move to 970 WGTK because they have the 2nd strongest night signal (5K) in the market.

UofL was free to do what they wanted, and they did shop around. But if they went to 970 then they'd be on the lesser signal every game, not just during the times there was a conflict with UK. So would the coaches shows and all that. Plus I heard CC was going to offer them a spot on a station in the Cincinnati market if they stayed with CC. I'm not sure if that ever happened or not, but I heard it was on the table.

WAVG-AM 1450 dropped the Classic Country format a little after 5pm. They are now Sportsradio 1450 as an ESPN radio affiliate. I wonder if anyone will pick up the Classic Country format.

I was wanting to listen to the 2 Live Stews today on 1570, but I heard Tim Brando on. Has anyone heard them on yet?

Why? What do you want, another talk, sports, talk or christian station? The classic country format was a good one. No one else is doing it. We need a "Music Of Your Life" / ABC Stardust format.

Classic country does not survive in Louisville. If it did, Cumulus wouldn't have flipped it! Radio-One didn't keep it for the same reason!

Neither of them knew what to do with it. If the classic country wasn't a viable format, I don't think 1450 would have stayed with it for so long. Just because a "big" radio company does not do it does not mean it's not a sellable format. Having a small AM simulcast an FM with a larger signal does not make sense, either. But that's what Cumulus is doing.

I think it does make sense. M-F is only simulcast from 12p-1p, 3p-6p, and 9p-6a. If you want local you listen to the FM, if you want national you listen to the AM. This gives me the best of both worlds.

So they are putting just the national feed on 1450 and the local idiots on the FM? Oh that's real smart. The FM will never bill it's potential that way. Would be interesting come Arbitron time of the AM pulled higher numbers than the FM. I couldn't listen to those guys longer than 10 minutes when they were on the Zone. Putting them on an FM signal isn't gonna make it any better.

Speaking of Shelbyville, Power 93.3 runs Shelby County High School sports. I've also heard them airing American Legion baseball.

Yes they do, and they do a heck of a job of that. I'd sure love to see them end up with 101.7.

What is Power 93.3... Are they a CHR???? I'll have to check radio locator for that one.
