I know this is a radio board, but I don't know anywhere else to put this.
I saw the debut of "2 Wants To Know" on WFMY yesterday. I think it's
somewhat disjointed, gives results of investigations and a few interviews,
and tries to intersperse the weather with "what we're working on at 6."
I once saw a "60 Minutes"-type local program in Dallas and thought it would
make a good local program airing once a week, perhaps in Saturday access time,
but I think it would do better in a large market and not in the Triad.
But off-point. If I programmed Channel 2, not only would "2 Wants To Know"
be on, but I'd steal "Katie" from Channel 8 and put her on at 3. I, personally,
am sick of Andy Griffith seemingly every time I turn on the set. (Recently I
sent g.m. Larry Audas a copy of WBTW Florence, SC's schedule up to 8 PM;
while he liked it, he reminded me that WBTW has two programs not available
to WFMY: "Katie" and "Inside Edition." I'd like to steal Katie from Channel 8
and put her on at 3; "Inside Edition" is too tabloidy for my taste, despite its
ratings.) Nevertheless, I predict that Andy will be back at the same old stand
before the summer's out.
As for the pairing of Frank Mickens and Julie Luck, I nominate them to replace Pat
and Vanna when they retire. Their 5 PM newscast was the silliest thing I've seen
since Frank Deal retired from Channel 8.
Still, some credit is due Channel 2 for trying something out of the usual groove.
After all, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" will put you out of business every time.
