2 Wants To Know

What happened last night?

Sweeps started, Julie Luck had her 1st day at The Deuce, and America was destroyed because Andy is no longer on at 5:30
I miss Julie Luck on Fox 8. I still watch "Roy's Folks" and she was on at the times when I would turn on Fox 8 for that. I only saw her on WFMY (in commercials) because I had to watch "Jeopardy" there after the Boston Marathon incident.

I realize I'm not as knowlegable as anyone working for Gannett and working in the high rent district on Phillips Avenue in Greensboro, but am I the only one who read TV-TD's statement "anyway in this day and age if you wanna watch Andy go watch Andy somewhere online etc..or better yet DVR Andy during the day and watch it back at 5:30p and pretend it is actually on at that time....." and found it extremly arrorgant? Its almost like saying "let them eat cake". I can't help wondering what the ratings were for Andy at 5:30 PM. In all the discussions and news releases I've read on this latest change at new-2, nothing's been said about the size of the audience at 5:30. And does Tanya consider her move to "2 wants to know" a promotion or demotion? I read on the News & Record's website last week a story that WFMY-TV expects to dominate the news with the addition of Julie Luck. Is this really the same Julie Luck I use to watch on Fox-8? I'll bet the folks over at WGHP are kicking themselves for letting her get away. And could someone please tell me which Triad station is the highest rated? I've noticed WXII claiming to be # 1 and last week on Wendover Ave I noticed a billboard claiming Fox 8 is the highest rated.

I love how you call me arrogant for making a comment that I did not mean as arrogant, but yet you are somehow above it all by making a suspect "high rent district / Phillips Ave" comment..(was that a race or economic slam, or both?).....also spell check should be your friend......It is classic that you call me "extremely arrogant" but misspell BOTH of them, and even better that you misspelled "knowledgeable"! And please feel free to read that last sentence with an arrogant tone. ::)

You are arrogant, but it comes natually as a " Gannett Employee" Rest in Peace Al Neuharth, but he was # 1 Mr. Arrogant! And yes I can say that as I worked for the man and Gannett.. What you said was, if people don't like it, they can go somewhere else in reference to Andy. Your comments about spell check should start in your own back yard as I often spot words not correct on supers and crawls, in addition to first grade improper grammer on the newscasts.
Back to the point...the 2 Wants to Know show is a bomb in my opinion and won't last... Just not interesting and neither is Tanya.

As for Julie Luck, I agree with most of the previous posts...I surmise she left WGHP with high hopes of going back to California to a major market and got "shot down" and came crawling back to the Triad. Probably, a non-compete clause was not enforced because 8 didn't want her back. Sorry, not a 2 fan anymore!

Big Ape, Julie got married and wasn't going anywhere. Her contract renewal came up during the sale of WGHP and they could not legally commit beyond a year. She could have gotten a job teaching with her Master's Degree or anyone of several spokesperson-type positions that exist in the area.

I wouldn't say Julie "came crawling back to the Triad," but Fox,
IIRC, did transfer at least one female anchor (and g.m. Dave
Whitaker) to Tampa, and g.m. Karen Adams is on her way to
Charlotte to run the new Fox o&o there. So it's not unthinkable
that Fox could have offered Julie a slot in one of its larger markets
(whether that would have been Los Angeles is strictly conjecture on
my part).

But she'll tell you she likes it here, so I have to agree that she's not
going anywhere--at least in the foreseeable future.

BTW, we'd better get off this business of calling each other "arrogant"
before the board operator puts this thread on "Take It Outside."

Probably not. But if she were there when Fox owned Channel 8,
then it's possible she might have moved on to one of their bigger
markets. The reality now is, Channel 2 sees her as their trump card,
the anchor who's going to put them back on top, and they're going to
give her every opportunity to do it.

;D ;D They are "Dreaming".. Station has done nothing but go downhill since the demise of the Orginial Good Morning Show and the retirement of Lee Kinard!

That's an observation I won't disagree with. In fact, I think
Channel 2 is trying to revive the spirit of the Kinard days with
the couch and the kitchen, but Eric Chilton is no Lee Kinard.

But back to "2 Wants To Know": yesterday, my dad attended his
high-school class reunion and his closest boyhood friend, who worked
at WFMY for years, was there with his wife. She was somewhat critical
of Channel 2's adding another news-type program (she thinks there's too
much news now) and also predicted that Andy would soon be back at 5:30.

A few months back, before I ever even heard of this "2 Wants To Know" thing,
I saw something about Scott Pelley being number one in Greensboro, Raleigh,
and Roanoke, even though he's still third nationally. In two of those markets
(Greensboro and Roanoke) Andy was running at 5:30 as lead-in to the 6 PM
newscasts on WFMY and WDBJ, respectively. Coincidence?

If I were king for a day I would destroy every copy of every episode of "The
Andy Griffith Show," but, realistically, I think that Channel
2 made a poor business decision taking him off at 5:30, and I still think he'll be
back at his old stand by the time the new season starts. I think a lot will
hinge not only on how "2 Wants To Know" does in the May ratings book, but
how it impacts "News 2 At 6."

But I have one other question: in Charlotte, Andy's been on four different
stations since he entered syndication in the early '70s (WBTV had him in the
network days and, IIRC, for a time in the '90s when Oprah clobbered him);
he's also been on WSOC, WRET (WCNC) when Ted Turner owned it, and WAXN.
Why is Andy's record so spotty in Charlotte and yet he's an icon in Greensboro?

Charlotte always seemed more "Big City" urban, less "Small Town" rural than Greensboro. More move-ins and lack of history in Charlotte, thus the jumping. That's how Charlotte rolls, so that's how the broadcasters have rolled with Andy.
Have other syndicated shows moved around more often in Charlotte than Greensboro, too? How did, say, Seinfeld do in Charlotte?
Plus in the specific example of Andy, Winston and Roanoke are closer geographically to Mt. Airy and the feel/history of Andy.

To my knowledge, "Seinfeld" reruns have never aired anywhere but
Ch. 46 in Charlotte and have apparently held their own.

That's one I didn't know (see how much I miss the digest-sized
TV Guide?). But aren't 46 and 55 a duopoly, and as I understand
it 46 is getting Fox and 55 MyNetwork?

Thanks Big Ape for agreeing with me about Mr/Ms TV-TD being arrogant. He/she certainly proved my point with his/her response. I do wish I had the time to check my spelling when I post. Maybe I should go to work for WFMY-TV and I would have more time to waste during my work day. And you are so right about the mistakes we see on their news graphics. As for my comment about the high rent district on Phillips Avenue, Mr/Ms TV-TD you can take them anyway that makes you happy. Ask somebody in your crack news department about the crime rate in the area. Having your studio location border the street leading to the White Street Land Field isn’t something I would want to brag about. I’m sure most real estate agents would agree being near a land field (city dump) doesn’t enhance property values. I’m sure the news 2 studios must have added insulation to buffer the noise from the garbage trucks going by.

First of all, the word is "landfill." Second, WFMY moved
from the News & Record building on Davie Street to the
Phillips Avenue site in 1955, when the area was still a
low-crime part of town and I don't know if the White
Street landfill even existed then. I don't know if WFMY
has the money to build a new facility, nor does it have
a duopoly to move in with (unlike sister station WXIA,
which moved from its longtime home on West Peachtree
to share facilities with WATL on Monroe Place); likewise,
I don't know if Gannett could--or would--put up the money
to build WFMY a new facility (I keep thinking of the '60s,
when Storer built what looked like antebellum mansions for
its stations--it fit Atlanta but looked out of place in Detroit--
and I wonder if such a thing is even affordable now). So I
guess we can snipe all we want about WFMY's location but
I don't see any change in the future.

It keeps getting worse at WFMY! Not only is every other ad a promo for Julie Luck, now we are doing "News" stories about her previous "Cheerleading" experiences.. Wow! Breaking News.. Not just picking on Channel 2...All of the local stations have swayed away from the purpose of a "Newscast" >>>NEWS and have became "feature magazines" They all need to drop back to a half hour show at 6 followed by network at 6:30.. There's just not enough happening around here for an hour and a half. The to top it all off, the previous days "stories" run over and over again the next morning!!! ::) And traffic traffic..Blah Blah Blah.. What traffic?? It's the same every day barring a major accident.. Kill it! Especially Channel 12 and the bubble gum mumbly sounding "Busta Brown," reject from the Hip Hop Station!

Isn't that the truth.

Julie Luck is the one thing that would interest me. I miss her since she left Fox 8, where I could sometimes see her before "Roy's Folks". Which got pre-empted by the latest disaster this week.

Speaking of which, disasters that cause the network news to be extended mean I watch "Jeopardy" on Julie Luck's station and almost always see her.
