2008 in orlando radio?

looks like we got ourselves an interesting 08 here in the big o.

we got the sports/talk hybrid 540, the 740 that is mexican/UCF basketball game broadcaster and who knows about Orock. so, maybe we may see some good formats come back to orlando. Maybe some classic hits or maybe something like "95.3 party?" I really miss party and power is sucking out loud. i hope to god they flip it back to party. and interesting thing i heard today. "star 94.5" was playing a christmas song on new years eve.
ok all, feel free to post your predictions here but i think we are in for a wild ride.
and i hear that wmel may go catholic? too bad. looks like "wmmb" would be the only news talker in that market. good by to local talk in melbourne...

O rock will go classic hits or AAA-ish to try and screw with WMMO. They will do pretty well eventually. Slight possibility of spanish music of some type, but both Daytona and Orlando have one and any spanish format on 105.9 will tank. Country has a good chance of doing well too.

WMEL will go religious off the bird.

WLOQ will have the lifeforce sucked out of it through VTing. It will still be a cash cow.

WJRR will probably hit the top 5 by year's end if O-rock dies out. Expect it to lean a bit away from active rock towards modern rock if this occurs.

Anyway, my first post of 2008...Have a good year, y'all!

Radio-X

(Champagne burp)...ugh, I will feel this in the morning ;D

Johnny Magic will change his name to Wyatt Earp and join Doc over at K92......

Clear Channel will automate all of their stations.

hence there name cheap channel...
anyway, this is like my third post of 08 so happy new year.
and i have another prediction. A lot of pirates will start to pop up and give us some real radio in this town. lmfao. that would be funny.
and I think that orock will have a format change by the end of jan. look at ratings and i think there out the door witch would be nice.
I hope they go classic hits. They could compete with WMMO well because they have a stronger signal.
and i predict a change over at power. not sure what but i think there on the way of being gone.
maybe reincarnate party? that would be sooooooo nice.

the changes keep coming. Today, orock started to stunt. last night they were letting the jocks play what they wanted witch was great. now there playing the history of rock and roll. so, i think oldies on fm will be a reality or something of the sort. someone hinted to next week. so looks wocl may be just pure randomness this weekend. i'm keeping my ear on that station for sure this weekend. this is an interesting one here. maybe we'll see the old days of jrr? hopefully so. that would be excelent. and you noticed jrr changed in 2002 when orock was getting popular so now that there gone maybe they can go back to there roots as well.
just a thought.

My predictions:

WOCL 105.9 from Alternative to Classic Hits / Oldies (in process...)

WEUS Big 810AM is forced to flip to either a more obscure Oldies format or something else that will continue this domino effect.

Not likely, but it will be very interesting if someone makes a bold decision to flip an FM station to Urban AC, competing with powerhouse WCFB Star 94.5.

It'd be nice to have "The Party" again, but it's not likely. WXXL 106.7 has new pop dance mixes broadcasted live every Saturday, WCFB Star 94.5 is starting to play Old School House from the 90's, and WOMX Mix 105.1 is starting to play more pop dance songs (plus a little 90's pop rap) from the 80's & 90's Saturday nights.

In conclusion, I don't think there'll be any other major format flips other than WOCL 105.9.

and now we have jrr playing 80s rock on saturday night along with there against the grain show.

WMEL back on the air

Found WMEL up and running again on 1300 - Talk is alive and well!!!

Called them and they said they are still having some "tech" problems and the signal will continue to get stronger in the southern part of the county soon.

And yes, Imus is on there in the morning..............but ya know, he isn't as bad as I thought he would be.........

Well, 2008 is almost over.
wocl did flip to classic hits, weus flipped to some religious crap. someone has to fix that or something. i knew weus could not last.

as for people in brevard, true oldies also disappeared on 1560 and espn is now on there. have no idea how that one will work. wixc has had two format changes in the past 4 months. first espn, then classic country and god knows what next? we will see.

now it's time to think of 2009.
oh yeah, wjrr has been playing some classic rock on weekends and playing more obscure tracks as well. whtq is still the same old boring station.

so what about next year? i see some big changes next year... not sure what but i can feel it :).

Thanks.

Wow, WLAA "Que Buena Orlando" got 2/10ths below a full point and WOKB "Inspiration" got 4/10ths below a full point, while WRMQ 1140 (Gospel) got 6/10ths below a full point.

WRMQ's product is much better and they run a much better ship. I wonder why Rama beat them? Could it be ebcause WRMQ 1140 is a daytimer and while WLAA and WOKB are supposed to lower power, they almost never do?

Oh yeah, 1580 is a daytimer....but they tell potential clients that are interested in leasing the facility that "We have special authority to operate at night".. and run at least a few hundred watts, if not full power. 1580 has been known to operate with 10KW ND and not the 10KW/3 tower CP they have or the 2.1KW/Non-D CP they have.

My point.. something will HAVE to give in 2009 for Rama.... they can't continue to operate like this. Bishop Willis got away with it for only so long before he lost his licenses in a few places, including Jacksonville's 1280 AM.. why is Rama being allowed to continue like this?

According to Bob Padilla's most handy CFLRADIO.NET website, the transaction from Peoples Broadcasting to Rama occurred sometime in 2004 for about $600,000.

And when 1580 runs excessive power during the day, guess who they do damage to?

WLAA 1600!

I remember driving through Orlando, right about halfway between Then WOKB 1600 and WNTF 1580 and it was an absolute MESS, couldn't make out either one very well.

The owner's (Kris Persaud) daughter, Shanti is the one running the show there... she's a REAL piece of work and their Engineer is no better.

What was the logic behind moving 1580 from Mount Dora to Bithlo in the first place, considering 1600 was there all along and would prevent 1580 from ever obtaining a city grade over Orlando since the former WOKB would require second adjacent protection?

Well, between the two, if they both programmed the same thing, it'd be listenable over most of Orlando.

One day when going thru East Orlando, I heard the jock ID'ing the station as "Inspiration 1600 and 1580"... yet WNTF was OFF THE AIR.. lol

I went looking for WNTF's towers on East Colonial Drive and even though I have the address, I never found them.. as they are short, unpainted and unlit.

Classic Rock on JRR????

I have only heard an occasional "Back In Black" every now and then.....

Am I missing something????....( I am not counting the Saturday Night Metal Show...)

Bloodletting at Cox. MMO loses 2 full timers...Wait that's not a prediction...it's a fact!

who got the axe at wmmo? i don't see jerry steffen on their website. i used to love his lost 70s segments.
