2011 Radio Predictions

R1 will figure something out with Mojo. I think it's poorly programmed musically. The old Mojo 949 was programmed excellent to target both the black and white audience. Let's hope they get it together or it will do worse than Mojo 100.3 as an Urban AC.

96 Rock will need to improve to survive another year... period. Excellent sounding station, but maybe it's time to do a little more marketing.

Rewind 949 will end up sounding more like an AC... they've already added currents in there from time to time.

What am I forgetting?

96.5 has signal issues in Metro Cincinnati regardless of the format. Cumulus will stick with the current format. I believe they will either dump Warm 98 or Radio 94.1. WGRR and WOFX continue as they are.

I wonder what either 98.5 or 94.1 would go to if they flipped. Certainly not FM talk, in my view. Perhaps one of these stations go more Hot AC.

Other predictions (and these may or may not come true, I'm just speculating here):

--Clear Channel blows up KISS 107, seeking to perhaps turn it into a simulcast (WLW-FM, anyone?).
--WQRT-AM's move with Furman actually does fairly well in mornings, as its fan interaction-friendly setting on Fountain Square brings in listeners (especially as sunrise times get earlier in summer), but the changes to evenings flop, making any overall ratings gain negligible at best.
--Bonneville continues to have no idea what to do with 94.9... especially since, as noted above, they've added in more current music at times (James Blunt and Kelly Clarkson just since 2 PM EST today??? Even Black Eyed Peas in the 1 PM hour!). It's supposed to be "Feel Good Music from the 80s and More"...just didn't think "and More" meant 2000-2010.

If that happens, then CHR would move to 98.5 or 94.1. WNNF could be why 96 Rock hasn't gotten higher ratings which makes one wonder how they would do if it was on 94.1 instead of 96.5.

Good predictions, but CC will never blow up KISS 107. It does excellent 18-34 and still will typically beat Q102. Jordan is one of the most respected PD's, even though I think it's just as cookie cutter as any other CC station.

However, I'd drop 94.1 if I were CC

Cumulus owns 94.1 & 92.5. I also agree with you on Mojo. R1 should have left it Urban AC. I don't think it will last in 2011.

Never say never.. Emmis blew up Radio Now in Indy when they were drawing some pretty respectable numbers.. Their PD Rayne is also very well respected in the CHR realm

Except that WQRT isn't done with its plans for the evening...... of which not many are privy to..... "Tri's" post is great.

Speaking for Dayton, it looks like Mix 107.7 is going the "More music in 2011" route...I heard an advertisement yesterday. They have no other choice with Fly 92.9 breathing down their necks. Fly sounds better than Mix IMO.

WDJO flips to Hispanic Oldies, but goes off the air when listeners tire of hearing a loop of La Bamba, Tequila and Speedy Gonzales over and over.

I don't see an FM format simulcast of WLW happening anytime soon. If CC wanted to have an FM Simulcast of WLW-AM, they would have done this years ago...
They will keep 107.1 a viable competitor (if you want to call it that)...

In my opinion, The FM dial in Cincinnati has always been a mess... too much of the same and not enough variety.

I really don't listen to radio much anymore... too much repetition; and "music" by "musicians" anymore that I have never even heard of... (on a related note--- who were ANY of the performers last night on Dick Clark's New Years Show. The only group I have heard of was Train... who is Neyo? Drake? La Roux? Who ARE these people??? )

I agree that Doo Wop is over but why is everything auto tune now? It sounds awful. I do agree that there is too much of the same on the FM dial. How many Oldies,Rock and Country stations do we need in this market?

Ummmmmmmmmmmm Since i'm in the indy market listening area myself. i recall Emmis not blowing up Radio Now. they sold Radio Now Branding to Radio one and it was moved to 100.9fm. Radio now is still on the air in indy just on a different frequency and different owners

The Backstreet Boys and New Kids On the Block were on before midnight. I could have sworn I was in a time warp. Too bad Dick Clark wasn't.

I like how Ke$ha just stood there awkwardly the whole time. We get it Ke$ha, you like to dress and act weird, Madonna did all that 25 years ago, you're not special, please go away.
