Since 1992, David "Kidd" Kraddick did mornings at KHKS in Dallas. His program was syndicated to 100 stations nationwide. He died on July 27, possibly of a brain aneurysm. He was only 53.

She won an Obie award in 1960 for best actress. She appeared on several tv series, including Taxi, Newhart, Will & Grace, Murder She Wrote and All In The Family. She appeared in several films, including Clue and Pippi Longstocking, but she is best remembered for her role as Army Captain Doreen Lewis in Private Benjamin: "If Patton were alive, he'd slap your face!"

Eileen Brennan died of bladder cancer July 28. She was 80.

Captain Kangaroo was on television for something like 500 years. It seemed like it anyway. Cosmo Allegretti, who created and voiced Mr. Moose, Dancing Bear, Bunny Rabbit and many other characters, died of emphysema July 26 at age 86.

Karen Black had roles in Nashville, Easy Rider, The Great Gatsby and other films but is best known for playing an oilfield roughneck in Five Easy Pieces. She died of cancer August 8 at age 74.

Stan Lynde created and drew the Western comic strips Rick O'Shea---"Rick-o-shea," get it?---and Latigo. Lynde, who owned a 160-acre cattle ranch in Montana, died of cancer August 6 at age 81.

Following the August 6 death of Margaret Pellegrini at 89, only two of the 124 Wizard Of Oz Munchkins are still alive. She liked to point out that the dog who played Toto in the 1939 film made more money than she did.

The King Sisters began singing and performing with big bands and on radio programs in the 1930s. They had 13 top-30 hits, 1941-45. They were part of an ABC-TV musical variety series, The King Family Show, 1966-67 and 1969. Marilyn King, the last survivor of the six sisters, died of cancer August 7 at age 82.

Jack was a big part of the early Sun Records scene. He is credited with discovering Jerry Lee Lewis and later, with discovering Charlie Pride.

RCA included no biography or pictures when they distributed Charley Pride's first single (The Snakes Crawl At Night, 1966) to radio stations because they assumed that country radio programmers wouldn't play the record if they knew Pride was black. Well, we all found out...and Pride has had 52 top-ten country hits and 29 number ones. There ya go!

Gail Kobe had a small part in the 1956 film The Ten Commandments, appeared on several tv shows in the 1950s-60s, and directed 210 episodes of The Bold & The Beautiful. She died August 1 at age 82.

Mick Farren was a music journalist, an author, and lead singer of the British punk band the Deviants, which formed in 1967. He collapsed onstage during a July 27 concert in London and died soon after. He was 69.

Channel Zero is a Brussels heavy-metal band known as "the Belgian Metallica." They were together from 1990 to 1997 and released four studio albums and a live album. They reunited in 2010 and put out a new album in 2011. Drummer Phil Baheux died suddenly on August 10 at age 45.

It saddens me to announce---how is that intro, Fonz?---that Bulgarian-born opera singer Spas Wenkoff died on August 12 at age 84. Among the many opera companies he performed with was the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
