2013 Predictions

*A group of well-to-do political Conservatives, smarting from the results of the 2012 election
and blaming the media, will make a very strong run at a hostile takeover of one of the Big 3
Networks, with the goal of taking control and totally remaking the News Division.

*Quiet but very serious negotiations will take place between the NFL and ESPN on the subject of
giving the Mother Ship an exclusive on future Super Bowls. Word of this will leak and force
Congress to hold hearings about the possibility of requiring certain events be broadcast over-the-air.

*PBS will begin the process of becoming an ad-supported network, seeing the handwriting on the wall
that their funding will eventually be cut from the Federal budget.

*Someone will attempt to revive the comedy/variety format from the 1970's. It will be the biggest
Epic Fail in TV history.

*Someone in his family will finally talk some sense into Pat Robertson. He will retire from
The 700 Club and stop embarrassing himself saying bizarre and stupid things on-air.

*The new, earlier Jimmy Kimmel Live will seriously threaten to knock Letterman into 3rd. place.

*The broadcast networks will be down to one soap apiece by year's end.

*CSI: Terre Haute will NOT premiere on the CBS primetime lineup

*MyTV, The CW and ION will still all suck.

1. NBC will finally confirm that Jimmy Fallon will succeed Jay Leno as host of the Tonight Show and this time, there will be no going back less than a year later.
2. Arsenio will come back to late night, and crash before the year is out.
3. CBS will cancel Two and a Half Men after finally realizing how old the show is and how worn out the jokes are.
4. ABC will get such an affiliate backlash from the rotating of Jimmy Kimmel and Nightline, that the Kimmel show will be back at 12:05 before Fall.
5. MTV will find an additional crappy show to replace Jersey Shore.
6. Fox Movie Channel will be gone entirely, and replaced by FX Movie Channel, a poor clone of AMC that concentrates on nothing but movies.
7. Seth MacFarlane will abandon his planned reboot of the Flintstones, citing that he is too busy.
8. Current TV will die out due to lack of quality programming...and many smaller services will die right along with it.
9. We will see more and more retransmission disputes, and more cable networks being dropped by cable systems/DirecTV/Dish as prices slowly go up.
10. The CW's audience will shrink to the point to where it will eventually go into one of two directions---the MyNetwork TV way or ceases existence entirely.
11. Fox will finally cancel Cops, thus ending the last original network television non-sports/news programs on Saturday night. Cops will end up on TruTV, however.

Nah, they already have Fox News.

*Quiet but very serious negotiations will take place between the NFL and ESPN on the subject of giving the Mother Ship an exclusive on future Super Bowls. Word of this will leak and force Congress to hold hearings about the possibility of requiring certain events be broadcast over-the-air.

A subset of this may already be happening. All of a sudden, the NFL wants one or two more teams per conference in the playoffs. From what I've read, ESPN's new deal allows them to buy into the playoffs at $100 million per game. Since the other networks won't give up their slices of the playoff pie, guess what will happen.

*PBS will begin the process of becoming an ad-supported network, seeing the handwriting on the wall that their funding will eventually be cut from the Federal budget.

No reason not to. Even not-for-profit stations have bills to pay.

*Someone will attempt to revive the comedy/variety format from the 1970's. It will be the biggest Epic Fail in TV history.

Bring on The Justin Beiber Goodtime Hour! ;D (Gag!)

*Someone in his family will finally talk some sense into Pat Robertson. He will retire from The 700 Club and stop embarrassing himself saying bizarre and stupid things on-air.

He'll still embarrass himself, but just not every day.

*CSI: Terre Haute will NOT premiere on the CBS primetime lineup

But CSI: Mayberry, starring Ron Howard as Sheriff Opie Taylor, will. ;D

·The Country Network ends up out of business the same way Sinclair dumped TheCoolTV as agreements aren't renewed and it's taken off en-masse.
·The planned "relaunch" of G4 under Esquire's name never goes through as post-mortem lawsuits involving X-Play and AOTS staffers launch in earnest for poor working conditions under NBCU management (going by the gossip coming out of the end of their shows). A few Esquire test shows go through and are stillborn, and after yet more of the "Knight Rider-COPS-Cheaters-Quantum Leap" loop erodes the network, it's quietly merged with Cloo or Chiller.
·Ricki Lake's show gets a last-second retooling to appeal to her traditional demos, but the show is canceled when it doesn't take. Same with Jeff Probst.
·The stations Nexstar and Sinclair acquired in 2012 with news departments will see heavy attrition and ratings plunges as the usual budget cuts hit.
·INSP could be a target in the same way RFD TV purchased FamilyNet and will likely merge with another faith and values network.
·Post-Newsweek Stations will finally get a new name three years after the sale of Newsweek. More P-N stations will pre-empt even more programming from their networks as the year goes on.
·KSL-TV eventually tires of pre-empting The New Normal and adds it quietly to their schedule over the course of spring.
·In the eventual sale of Tribune stations, Local TV gets many of them, with Journal (small-market Fox stations), Cox, Scripps (for the New Orleans duopoly) and CBS (CW stations) showing interest in a few of them, and Fox in natural markets with their stronger affils such as Seattle, Indianapolis and San Diego. WGN Radio sadly goes to Clear Channel by default and gets cleared to air the usual Rush/Beck/Hannity/Savage block after the contracts are obligated.
·Nickelodeon loses even more ground, and their iCarly and Victorious spin-off shows are ignored entirely out of protest and their paint-by-number plots. In desperation its broadcast day is moved up to end at 11pm with yet more SpongeBob and TMNT reruns.
·TeenNick is likely rebranded. Nick Jr. returns to 24/7 programming as the NickMom block and protests are successful and its finally pulled.

Does this include "The First Family"? I noticed he was a producer.

I still remember "Real People".

1. CNN will hire more high profile talent away from the “Big Three” networks, forcing the layoffs of more veteran CNN personnel.
2. Piers Morgan’s show will be replaced by another talk show as it failed to garner an audience.
3. MSNBC will continue to be the mouthpiece for the Obama Administration.
4. FOX will continue to be the mouthpiece for the right-wing element that has taken over control of the Republican Party.
5. The following shows will be cancelled in 2013: Bones; Two and a Half Men; The Mob Doctor; Most of the programs on the CW Network; Elementary.
6. The majority of Television shows will either feature cops and lawyers, or more reality shows where no talent white trash get to claim their 15 minutes of fame.

Meanwhile, ABC's and Univision's planned news network will gain momentum.....and then blow all the other news services out of the water.

  • "RightThisMinute" will team up with a national syndicator at NATPE '13, but will fail to clear enough markets, just like Raycom's "America Now."
  • The TBN family feud becomes more volatile, leading them to merge with Daystar and the Crouch family forced out.
  • If Tribune's TV unit gets sold into pieces, Weigel will be the winner of the Antenna TV program contracts and place some shows on ThisTV and others on Me-TV.

This caught my eye, and is interesting. I could see a merger between INSP and GMC. Personally, I feel INSP is the stronger of the two and would more than likely take over GMC. They've been around longer and seem more established/stable. Slightly better shows and presentation as well.

      • Here's my prediction for 2013
        • Current TV would see big layoffs and possibly Al Gore selling the network to another owner like NBCUniversal or Disney
      • Uhh.....NBC Universal is owned by Comcast. That means whatever NBC Universal buys Comcast also buys

As for Current being sold to Comcast, not likely to happen. If it does, they can kiss Cenk Uygur goodbye. He left MSNBC because he basically didn't like the fact they wanted to tone his rhetoric down. As a result, he & MSNBC agreed to part ways (I think the YouTube video he made addressing the issue is still there somewhere). If Current were to to be sold to NBC Universal, he would come full circle & would likely leave again

It should also be noted that outside of The Stephanie Miller Show simulcast in the mornings, The Young Turks With Cenk Uygur (Which has also been one of the most HIGHLY successful podcasts on the Internet) is THE BEST thing Current TV has in its lineup (The show's success as a podcasts PRECEDES their Current TV gig & is what led to Cenk's gig on MSNBC for the time he was there)

As for Eliot Spitzer & Jennifer Granholm, they would become contributors (Eliot was an MSNBC contributor before moving to Current where he now hosts his own show). Bill & Stephanie would likely go back to just being on the radio. Current's news anchors would become anchors for NBC News & MSNBC

Current would basically become the dumping ground for MSNBC's documentary shows in addition to the shows it already airs
        • Maury Povich would announce his retirement at some point.
        Here's to that
          • NBC to cancel its last remaining soap opera on its network Days of Our Lives
        • Which Bell will likely move it to CBS (Or at least try to) since the network already airs Y&R & B&B

Meanwhile NBC will likely chop the last two hours of Today in lieu of a lineup that caters to Work At Home DADS

          JMO.....

          Cheers & 73 :D

And now here's MY Predictions for 2013

* CBS will FINALLY enter the diginet arena by launching one on their O&Os (Either CNET TV or a channel we'll call CBS Local which would consist of (Mostly) hard news, weather & sports plus a mix of Public Affairs programming, interview programs & Lifestyle shows)

* CBS O&O's will start streaming newscasts & other programs they produce via TV.com

* NBC O&O's will start streaming newscasts & other programs they produce either via nbcnews.com or some other part of the NBC Universal site

* MSNBC could be rebranded as CNBC 2 (Plausible)

* Comcast/NBC will buy Current TV HOWEVER the TV channel will be used as a dumping grounds for the MSNBC documentaries while the Current TV website will be transformed into a web channel called CNBC 3 which will be driven by viewer generated content (More on this on the WEBCASTING/INTERNET STREAMING BOARD). MSNBC will also lose Cenk Uygur as a host (On the TV side)

* NBC will axe Days Of Our Lives & chop the last two hours of Today to make room for a slew of shows catering to Work At Home DADS (This lineup will include a version of The View featuring a group of men as hosts)

* Comcast/Xfinity will FINALLY get its head out of its collective a*s long enough to release an Android version of their Xfinity TV app that allows you to watch LIVE TV just like iOS users currently enjoy (This is currently not possible on ANY version of Android)

* Military Channel will pick up the recently-cancelled Last Resort

* MyNetwork TV will start producing its own shows again to be more directly competitive with ION

* CW will drop ALL of their comedies (They're no good anyway) in lieu of more dramas produced by TNT (I can even see Dynasty & Knots Landing on the CW someday)

That's all I can think of

Thoughts?

Cheers & 73 :D

Guaranteed to occur during 2013 or my name isn't Sally Jesse Raphael:

*With flat screens now dominating the consumer TV market, the friendly neighborhood TV repairman will make a startling comeback.

*And with the comeback of the TV repairman, Nipper, the RCA dog will make a comeback.

*The Paley Museum of Broadcasting will put on display an old tube tester that used to be at the friendly neighborhood drug store. People, especially the young, will drop their jaws in awe when the tour guide tells them that people used to actually unplug the set, unscrew the back, and take tubes out to be tested by these gizmos. Classroom revisionists will say it never happened.

*Tina Louise, Wayne Rodgers, Susan Richardson, David Caruso, and Suzanne Somers will star in a new reality show titled But I Thought I Was the Star of the Show! The show will consist of back stabbing, brown nosing, and various forms of glad handing. The winner will star in a new show on the CW.

*A show featuring former members of The Pussycat Dolls will air. It will show them individually at their new gigs: Waitress, office lobby greeter, Universal Studios Tour Guide, sign turner wearing a chicken suit, and Derby Doll, among others.

*World Wrestling Entertainment will introduce a new character, Wrestling Jesus. He'll be lowered into the ring from above, and perform in-ring miracles. He will then walk up to a child in a wheelchair in the first row, place His hands on said child, and <POOF!> a miracle! Said child rises and begins to walk! The crowd goes crazy! Ratings go through the roof.

Then Vince McMahon, knowing a good thing when he sees it, forsakes wrestling and goes into the traveling faith healing business. The man knows how to make a buck.

That's all you get. ::)

I posted my idea on the Current TV website transformation here for those who wanna take a look :D

Cheers & 73 :D

Here are my predictions:

1. Bob's Burgers finally gets cancelled and will be replaced by another Seth MacFarlane show but not the reboot of The Flintstones as he has abandoned that idea.

2. Katie Couric's talk show is cancelled but ABC wants her to become the heir apparent to Barbara Walters on The View.

3. Barbara Walters retires from The View and ABC. Katie Couric replaces her.

4. After 24 seasons, The Simpsons are finally cancelled.

5. NBC fires Matt Lauer from Today.

6. 2 and 1/2 Men is also cancelled but in the finale to the show it is realized that Charlie Sheen's character is alive and well and Sheen makes a guest appearance to prove it.

7. Jeff Zucker will be fired from CNN by fall.

8. Game Show Network acquires the Drew Carey episodes of The Price Is Right.

9. ABC cancels The Chew and replaces it with the afternoon version of Good Morning America called Good Afternoon America.

10. RFD-TV adds The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres and Petticoat Junction to their lineup.

More predictions I forgot to mention earlier.....

* All three Fox College Sports channels will be converted to Soccer Channels for each of the Leagues in FIFA (If needed, Fox Sports can put more than one League on each channel to accomondate for Time Zone differences). In a related move, Fox Soccer Channel will be rebranded as Fox Sports FIFA

* MLS will launch its own network (They're the only ones without one)

* CBS Sports Network will either take off & fly in its present incarnation or we will be talking about it being pulled as a cable network & relaunched as a diginet with the O&Os & affiliates being able to use it to broadcast local sports events such as High School sports & FCS College Football (Even to the point where a customized version of the CBS Sports graphics are allowed to be used) by 2014

* News Corp. will launch Sky News International as a cable channel in the US (And take their newscasts off Fox Soccer in the process)

* RTV will go away

Also, regarding my earlier prediction about a CBS Local diginet, this diginet will also be the home for rebroadcasts of CBS Evening News (Or original broadcasts during NFL season & other sports conflicts) & Face The Nation (Original broadcasts can also be aired here in the event of a sports conflict)

Thoughts?

Cheers & 73 :D

  • DirecTV will buy DMX, the provider of its music-only channels, and rebrand them under the "DirecTV Music" name.
  • E.W. Scripps will sell its underperforming Phoenix and Baltimore station while pursuing other acquisitions.
  • After realizing that they have less than 1,000 viewers at any time, ABC will pursue other options for Live Well Network.

Here is my predictions for 2013:

CW to announce it is closing up shop on August 31 ,2016 at 12:00 AM ET and UPN relaunches 24 hours later in its place.

Sinclair buys TV Stations in New York City ,Washington DC ,Boston ,Philadelphia ,Atlanta ,Miami
,Hartford ,CT ,Dallas ,Los Angeles ,San Francisco ,San Diego ,Phoenix and Chicago and airs their ROH Wrestling TV Show in those markets getting a 2.0 rating weekly.

AT&T's Live TV App includes a TV Tuner included for users to get local OTA tv.

Sporting Events return to OTA Television on sundays to fill airtime (i.e Sunday Afternoon Baseball on FOX) and FOX airs MLB saturday afternoons ,saturday nights (when UFC on FOX doesn't air) and Sunday Afternoons.

The NBA and NHL both signs TV deals with FOX for 20-25 years.

I doubt Sinclair would buy anything here in Hartford/New Haven. It would be nice to see Tribune cough up WCCT-TV (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford though. As for ROH wrestling, the only New England stations airing it are WGME-TV (CBS) channel 13 of Portland, ME (Saturday at 11:35 PM ET) and WLWC-TV (CW) channel 28 of New Bedford, MA (Providence). If you were implying ROH airing in WWE's proverbial backyard, then yes, I'd love to see it (WWE is based in Stamford, Exit 9 from I-95).

* CBS will FINALLY enter the diginet arena by launching one on their O&Os (Either CNET TV or a channel we'll call CBS Local which would consist of (Mostly) hard news, weather & sports plus a mix of Public Affairs programming, interview programs & Lifestyle shows)

Possibly, but nothing on the rotting grapevine to indicate such a move is being thought of at the moment.

* CBS O&O's will start streaming newscasts & other programs they produce via TV.com

They already stream their newscasts and locally produced shows on their own websites. You just have to log on @ showtime, and click on the 'LIVE NOW" banner at the top.

* NBC O&O's will start streaming newscasts & other programs they produce either via nbcnews.com or some other part of the NBC Universal site

Same story. ABC O&O's stream live newscasts as well. There is just not a one-network streaming site, because the nets like to encourage you to stick with your local affiliate site to get your news :)

* MSNBC could be rebranded as CNBC 2 (Plausible)

Don't see it

* Comcast/NBC will buy Current TV HOWEVER the TV channel will be used as a dumping grounds for the MSNBC documentaries while the Current TV website will be transformed into a web channel called CNBC 3 which will be driven by viewer generated content (More on this on the WEBCASTING/INTERNET STREAMING BOARD). MSNBC will also lose Cenk Uygur as a host (On the TV side)

Why all the hate on Current TV from everybody? Show me some actual proof the still new in it's current form network is doing so badly. Comcast just went through a huge merger. Doubt they will be in a buying mood of any existing channel for a while.

* NBC will axe Days Of Our Lives & chop the last two hours of Today to make room for a slew of shows catering to Work At Home DADS (This lineup will include a version of The View featuring a group of men as hosts)

CBS is doing ok with The Talk, but it's been a disaster over at ABC since two out of their three long time soaps went away. Both The Revolution and Good Afternoon America tanked, and Katie Curioc has so far turned out NOT to be the next Oprah (although that show may still be given a "2nd Chance" season) ABC's highest rated daytime hour remains...General Hospital. This may give NBC pause to leave things as they are if DOOL ratings remain rather steadfast.

Only if the show has interest in Canada or the UK (and one of those networks picks up production)

* MyNetwork TV will start producing its own shows again to be more directly competitive with ION

Would be nice

* CW will drop ALL of their comedies (They're no good anyway) in lieu of more dramas produced by TNT (I can even see Dynasty & Knots Landing on the CW someday)

CW still does sitcoms?
