... but I listen to WKSM 99Rock and they aren't even on that list.

Does that mean I'm not cool? :(

Someone needs to try to develop the ultimate redneck format and see if it'll catch on.

Hank Williams, Lynard Skynard, P-Ditty Daddy, Almond Brothers, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet, Snoop Doggy Dog, Taylor Swift....

You forgot Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit.

I'm somewhat familiar with Kid Rock. Don't know why he's listening to "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long... but I don't know my Limp Biscuit from Slipknot. One time I wound up at a Stone Temple Pilots concert, none of the people there knew who the band was. We all talked between songs and determined the band must be Alice in Chains. They ended the show, opening act, by identifying themselves as STP. In their defense, STP wasn't popular yet. It all sounds the same to my old (school) ears.

Was WCOA a music station back then or news?

I only have vague memories of WCOA playing music. I didn't start reading newspaper articles about radio station ratings until WCOA had flipped to news/talk... with a whole lot more local content. I do remember rock/top 40 being on one local Pensacola AM but I have no idea which one it was (it wasn't 1230 or 1370 although 1230 was Alternative circa 1991-1992).

My oldest memories of ratings had WCOA and WOWW (as country) being the two top stations, WWL always coming in the top 10 and TK being lower in the top 10 with their hard/acid rock format and Pensacola/FWB signal (no coverage of Mobile). The 3 way top 40 battle between WABB, Q100 & G100 made the Pensacola dial almost as exciting as the Great 108 made the PCB dial.

Not sure how you guys heard WWL at night over the RR CW ID every minute (Radio Reloj, Cuba on 870)
