2016 Rio Olympics on NBC

She gets her dream job, after pushing out Ann Curry. Then she decides to have a baby. Then she uses that as an excuse to turn down an assignment. When the time comes, she expects to take time off. All because she thinks she's entitled to "have it all." Equal pay for equal work? Don't see anything resembling equal work here.

Wow. That may be the most inane thing posted on the Internet today. You have no clue what the thinks, none. Rather than put the health of a baby at risk, she chooses to play it safe....and you somehow conflate that with the straw man of equal pay?

Not to mention the fact that "she" didn't push Ann Curry out - the producers did that, and from what I've read - Matt Lauer was not a Curry fan, and gave support.

So the producers said to Guthrie; "How would you like to get a huge promotion and co-host the most iconic program on morning TV? Oh - and here's a bag full of millions of dollars to do it, too..."

So she took the deal, and to add insult to injury, doesn't want a malformed handicapped baby. Selfish bit*h!

So, she took the bag of money and the job that often requires travel to dangerous places and situations, and then decided to have a baby. Yes, very selfish. She shows zero commitment to her work. How much you want to bet after she has the baby, it gets handed over to a nanny so the kid won't interfere with her career? Very, very selfish. She sc*ws both her employer and her kid.

I witnessed the Today announcement of her pregnancy recently, and it was over the top IMO. Five minutes of cheering, applause, hurrahs, etc. Give me a break. This really is only important to her and her family. The TV presence is there for a reason, but only to announce it, not to spend five minutes of unwanted TV. Yes, I understand how NBC and others want to make you "one of the family", but enough already. I was disgusted with this and quickly tuned out.

Guessing you are not in the target demo -- female 25-44. This is the demo also targeted by newsstand mags that scream "SHE'S PREGNANT!" every time some celeb makes the announcement. Impossible for anyone out of demo to understand why this sort of mundane news about total strangers evokes strong reactions from the target demo, but it does, and the media pander to that demo because it spends money freely and is easily convinced it needs something new, trendy or stylish.

hey! I'm in that demo and could care less. Of course I'm a couple years shy of exiting it :D I would just call it the moron 25-44 demo instead ;-) Hate the Today show, hate the Talk, gag

Why were you willing to insult a certain group of folks (or demographic) within the same age group?

NBC to air Olympics opening ceremony on one-hour delay

NBC will stream every athletic contest coming out of the Rio Olympics live but will hold the Opening Ceremony back for a one-hour delay, Mark Lazarus, NBC Sports Group chairman said at an Olympics press event July 11. Lazarus said NBC will “curate” the Aug. 5 ceremony, then run the stream and the broadcast an hour later.

“We think it’s important to give context to the show,” he said. “The opening ceremony is a celebration of Brazilian culture, of the pageantry, the excitement, the flair this beautiful nation has. We think it's important that we are able to put it in context for viewers so it’s not just a flash of color.”

Lazarus said the delayed ceremony broadcast is consistent with what the network did for the London and Sochi Games.

another stupid NBC Olympics broadcasting decision. they did the same thing when Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics 6 years ago, if it's based in "the Americas" (north America, South America and Central America) there is no need to tape delay it, it's ok to tape delay it if it's in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East & Australia as they are way too far way from the US time zones.

I don't really care about the delay, but I'd rather not have NBC "curate" the show. They could do OK, but based on past Olympics I'm guessing we'll hear Matt Lauer and Al Roker telling us what they learned about Brazilian culture from a 10-minute interview with Sergio Mendes.

Isn't the CBC airing the Olympics in Canada this year? It's too bad I don't live in western WA anymore...I'd watch the Canadian broadcast any day over the BS tape-delays and stupid segments that the Peacock gives us.
Of course, these are the same people that tape-delayed VANCOUVER for god's sake, and then aired the premiere of Animal Practice on top of The Who's performance in the London 2012 closing ceremony.

I think if the Olympics were in Los Angeles, NBC would still tape-delay the opening ceremonies for the West Coast (but it would air live in Eastern and Central in that case)

Here's what you may not understand. They have to insert commercials. The opening ceremonies usually won't stop during a commercial break. So they could miss what happened during the commercial, or stop the action, run their spots, and then pick things up after the break. I'm sure there'll be an uncut live version of it available somewhere for a price. Most people don't want to pay.

This article makes clearer that NBC's stream will be delayed as well. Which sounds stupid, but remember that NBC is owned by Comcast and they have little interest in hastening video's move to the Internet...

They have to insert commercials, but I wonder if airing the Opening Ceremonies live will interfere with local news on their affiliates in the Eastern and Central time zones, and NBC doesn't want to do that? Rio is one hour ahead of New York, the same time zone as the Maritime Provinces of Canada. I believe the ceremonies begin at 8 PM in Rio, which is 7 PM in NYC, 6 PM in Chicago, and 4 PM in LA (delayed even further in the Mountain and Pacific time zones?).

It’s worth pointing out here that NBC hasn’t aired the opening ceremony of a Summer Olympics live since 1996

Also a one hour delay would allow NBC stations & affiliates on the East Coast to get their evening news in (I'm assuming the event will be in primetime)

Otherwise, these stations & affiliates would be shackled WORSE than theit counterparts in the Mountain & Pacific time zones would be

Cheers & 73 :)
