2022 Television Predictions

ESPN International is doing the Game to when ABC/ESPN turn Chris Berman does it on that Channel or Radio version on ESPN Radio because most area's some how on dial pick up a Radio Feed of ESPN and yes World Series Radio feed is ESPN not Fox Sports Radio.

Megacast for Super Bowl when on ESPN and Fox that includes preseason Announcers for those Teams calling the Game to on TV. Also Super Bowl in cities without a Team like Orlando,San Diego and so on.

Also all Sportscenter shows including Scott Van Pelts done live so for Super Bowl the same set NFL Live/Sportscenter on the Road used would have been used for those shows to. So next event is March Madness outside in host city of final four a set to do Sportscenter/Scott Van Pelts show live

Not looking good that baseball may start on time as the lockout drags on:

This may be going on a limb, but I'm going to say the lockout drags on until June. The All-Star Game will have already been cancelled by then. There is finally a deal around July 4th and a salvaged season finally begins in late July, reminiscent of 2020. As with the 2020 COVID-shortened season, MLB and the players decide to attempt to restore fan interest after the lockout by readopting the division-based scheduling that existed in 2020 (i.e., all Eastern division teams in the AL and NL play each other all season, and likewise for the AL/NL Central and AL/NL West). And the 8-team "league tournament" format we saw in 2020 for each league returns. With three-game "wild card" quarterfinals; 5-game Division Series "semifinals"; and 7-game ALCS/NLCS before the World Series.

The changes don't help ratings and attendance as all-time lows for both numbers result. Fox even considers punting the World Series to FS1 starting for 2023, or even backing out of their MLB contract when its time for renewal.

Starting in 2023 the traditional 5-team playoff format returns but one of the post-lockout agreements extends the wild card round from "one and done" to a 3-game series.

That or this ultimatum by the owners, "Either a deal by July 4th or the season is completely cancelled."
They need to set an earlier deadline. MLB blew its chance to virtually monopolize television sports during the first spring and summer of the pandemic by not starting in May as many had hoped it would. Instead, it started on July 24, only a couple of weeks before the first NFL preseason games. Again, a 60-game season (which is what a late July start would mean) is not going to fly in a non-emergency setting. Set the deadline for April 15. If the players want to play and the owners want to have a season more than they want to break the union, a late April start and 140 games would still feel like a full season.

The NHL used the nuclear option in 2004, cancelling the entire 2004-05 season. Surprisingly, the fans returned enthusiastically in fall 2005. But baseball fans have been through this too many times to behave that way if MLB '22 never happens.

Just imagine if Gary Bettman was the baseball commissioner.🤯

The 1994 baseball strike damaged attendance for several seasons. It took the chemically enhanced 1998 home run race to get the fans back in the stands.

Not a good situation with ticket prices increasing while baseball’s fanbase gets even older.
