One of the big DX contests for amateur radio operators was held last weekend, and (as a shortwave listener) I picked up stations running less than a kilowatt from about that distance with no problem at all.
i dont think so.. for whatever reason, some transmissions fropm Udon Thani have a metallic sounding transmitter noise.. ive heard it on Radio Thailand from the same site, the government owned broadcaster

And this.. World Music Radio on 15700 from Denmark using 300 watts into a 3 element yagi beamed at 180 deg, due south from the transmitter site.. there is a very nice, incredibly clear station ID at 2 mins 46 seconds into the recording WMR 15700 Sun Sept 10, 2023 2002UTC.MP3
