25 Megawatts Of Shortwave Pow-Pow-Power

This is what what 25,000,000 watts ERP from Thailand sound like about 5000 miles away while being in the dead center of the main lobe. Beamed from Udon Thani, Thailand, this is Radio Free Asia to the "Far East" service area

One of the big DX contests for amateur radio operators was held last weekend, and (as a shortwave listener) I picked up stations running less than a kilowatt from about that distance with no problem at all.

Korean. Loud and clear. Was the humming noise behind a jammer?
i dont think so.. for whatever reason, some transmissions fropm Udon Thani have a metallic sounding transmitter noise.. ive heard it on Radio Thailand from the same site, the government owned broadcaster

The jamming is much mroe obvious

I hear alot of amazing shortwave stuff here, i just dont have time to share even 1/4 of it.

My two lowest powered catches

LRA36, 15476USB from the Argentinian Antarctic Base running at the time i was told was about 400 Watts Max, in USB. Non directional
Here's some audio:

And this.. World Music Radio on 15700 from Denmark using 300 watts into a 3 element yagi beamed at 180 deg, due south from the transmitter site.. there is a very nice, incredibly clear station ID at 2 mins 46 seconds into the recording
