On a related note, does anyone know what the status of his current contract is with WRLL?

There is an aircheck of that signoff on Uncle Ricky's site:

Note that there is a link from there to an airheck of Lar's first day doing Beautiful Music on CFL.<P ID="signature">______________

Rush Limbaugh again mentioned Larry Lujack as his main influence in being a radio disc jockey. Rush was a deejay before he was a talk show host.

His views may be controversial, but his execution of his show is top notch.

Hasn't David Letterman given credit to Lujack for being a major influence in his career? I know Letterman attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN, which WLS' signal would have reached. I'm not sure if Letterman grew up in the Hoosier state.

I find it funny that Rush was so heavily influenced by Lujack, who is on the opposite side of the political spectrum. Aside from some obvious delivery style cues (hitting table top, rustling papers, ect), I think Rush learned to be prepared for a show and to be entertaining.

Letterman grew up on Indy's north side. He's talked about Lujack through the years but I've heard him give greater credit to the late Rich King formerly of WLW and WKRC Cincinnati.

I wonder what Larry Lujack thinks of these guys who make ten times more a year than he ever made giving him kudos. He may have a funny comment about it.

Not that he is in poverty, but he may be amused.

As to politics and traditional top 40 radio. I think it is best to leave politics out of top 40, because top 40 is entertainment and not as serious as political views can be.

I have strong political opinions, but I always kept them off of my music show. Others at my station, KOOP, were outspoken on their shows, but I did not let listeners know anything except musical information and opinion. I wanted to entertain them, not annoy them.
