3WS Playing Christmas Music Already

So far it's hard to tell what they are doing...

The last few songs were...
Orleans... Still the One
Phil Collins... In the Air tonight
Sly... Dance To The Music
Free... All right now
Stones... Satisfaction
Temps... Papa was a Rollin' Stone...

Then a mild train wreck....
CSN... Southern Cross

I was about to say it had more of a rock oldies feel until the Temptations came on (I perceive Sly as a rock act more than R&B)...

Jury is still out...

Like I said on another thread, if CBS flipped 93.7 or 100.7 to a personality intensive classic hits station like WRBQ,WCBS, KRTH, or WOGL------they would save one of their tankjobs and finish off 3WS and maybe go after LTJ and BOB. Look what WCBS was able to do after it's return.

Why play program director Parttimer? There's nothing wrong with CSN in that set of music. Jury out?....for what?

The rest of those were hit singles... I didn't really view "Southern Cross" as a hit in that respect, to me it's more of a DVE song. Am I out in left field on that?

Southern Cross peaked at #26, I believe. Yes, it sounds like a DVE song, but I think it sounds even more like a 3WS song. 3Ws has played it for years.

DVE has been playing a lot of older stuff lately (like the CSN)(CCR, Paul Simon) that they should just let 3WS play as 3WS has been playing for years. And, 3WS has way more DVE songs in their playlist now (AC?DC???are they kidding!), so it's anybody's guess where CSN falls now. I would say 3WS.

I think 3WS should have more of a "pop" sound to it, like it used to. I see on this site they are sometimes referred to as DVE Light?

why not
the retail industry starts shoving christmas down out throats right after labor day
do why not the radio to

i remember you would not even hear about christmas till day after thanksgiving
not now
it seems to get earlier and earlier every year

and then when you finally go christmas shopping in december
there is nothing left

3WS is playing AC/DC? ;D

Everyone is playing AC/DC now. I turn on college football and they're playing AC/DC. I went to Wal-Mart today and the greeter was Angus Young.

Seriously, AC/DC has a new album out and so their exposure is peaking.

So yes, while I am surprised to hear AC/DC is on 3WS, I'm not shocked.

A couple of things going on here, not necessarily related. Just because 3WS played "Southern Cross" for years doesn't mean it ever belonged on the station. Most likely it was a case of sharing research with DVE, it tested well so they played it. It wasn't a big hit single.

DVE also plays stuff you'd only expect to hear on oldies or AAA stations. As much as people complain about their repetitiveness (and deservedly so in some cases) they are rather unique in terms of rock stations as far as how many styles of music they play, and the ratings they achieve, particularly 25-54. In an era where new rock stations are all screaming guitars and cookie monster vocals, and classic rock is Boston and "Slow Ride" every 45 minutes, DVE is actually very listenable by comparison.

DVE? I remember hearing that on LTJ back in the day!

OK, I'll admit to having a total mental block on that one. But yesterday I heard things like ZZ Top's "I Thank You" and Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac" that are more classic rock records than pop hits.

And why is the Fab 4 at 4 only 2 songs? Beatles songs average 2:30 or so.....

But as Clarke said, the numbers are good, the demos are better, so what do I know?
