5 tower array long I 78???

There is a 5 tower array long the westbound lanes of 178 in Shartlesville. What station is that? Is it on the air???

When I first saw it being built year ago, I thought Pat Garrett was moving WWSM, but believe it or not, that's the 5-tower array of WEEU, Reading. Formerly 1kw day and night on 850, this array spews 20000 watts day and 6000 night on 830 toward Reading, even giving them decent coverage into the west Philly suburbs! It's an odd array, with one short tower.

Not too far away is the odd-looking curtain antenna of WMLK 9465 on shortwave. Google them and check their website; it's is a little strange.

Cheers!

Only moved there a few short years ago, too. Used to have the site up on Radio Road (or is it Broadcasting Road?) up near where the Target, etc., is. I wanna say they moved in '99 or 2000, then the transmitter site was sold and the area developed.

It was on Broadcasting Road, in a very UNdeveloped area a couple miles from the Berkshire Mall. I remember going out there during my WEEU days with our Chief Engineer, and being asked if I wanted to shoot some random vermin -- (To which, I politely declined.)

Imagine my shock well over 10 years later, coming back home to Reading with my girlfriend...looking for a place to eat...and learning Reading FINALLY has a Chili's. So, we get the address, and I am clueless. I lived there for YEARS, and had never heard of the street. I call them for directions, and they tell me it's just off Route 12. ROUTE 12??? NEVER HEARD OF IT! Felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. I then find out Route 12 is the old "Road To Nowhere" (only in Berks County), and Chili's is sitting smack dab on the old WEEU tower site. I told my girlfirend that "years ago on this very spot, the type of animal on your plate was shot, and my voice emulated with 5,000 watts from now non-existant radio towers." Very odd.

WEEU provides a good daytime signal here in Bradford County, listen regularly. Nights? Sometimes clear, others - not so clear. Also listen to them in Tioga County. Both counties are in the northern tier.
