50's/60's Board....it's been hijacked....

Thank you for not playing.

Radio-Info admins need to start a music trivia message base for all these word game threads, and leave the formats boards for radio topics only.

There were some 50s/60s trivia threads in here, couple years ago or so, but they died out for whatever reason. The current threads seem to provoke a great amount interest, and response from more than a few - can't see the harm.

Hint: Want to hijack to " *** Have It " threads? Post a thread with something of interest in the oldies genre [i.e., trivia, likes/dislikes, questions] and I'm certain there will be avid response, and I for one, would be one to respond. 8)

This website has been a wonderful vehicle for posting and learning what is going on in radio, but I think the number of posts are down because there just isn't anything going on in radio. Sad, but true. Really, what else can be said about the 50's format, for instance. Not much new. We either like it or we don't. My local site in Cincinnati hasn't had anything interesting in the way of posts in months, cause there just isn't anything going on, except for some changes at WLW. More and more folks at turning to Sat radio for music and local formats are all alike, thanks to 3 or 4 companies that own all the stations. Just an opinion. That and 59 cents will get you a senior citizen coffee at McDonalds.

I'll have the coffee ;D

Speaking of hijacking, one can hijack coffee at the hobo depot by using old coffee grounds left by the last freight train passenger. Then again, I once referred to coffee as "black blood" - but that was hijacked too, right off the old man's plate, and polluted.

Just shows to go ya how miserable and unfit for civil society some people are.

How many times can we rehash "oldies radio should play 10000 obscure titles"?

as long as it takes, or:

"the Concrete and the Clay beneath my feet begins to crumble"

"until the twelfth of never"

"Till the moon deserts the sky
Till the all the seas run dry"

"The Swallows Come Back from Capistrano"

"until the poets run out of rhymes
in other words until the end of time"

Until It's Time For You to go"

They are only obscure....to the people that don't know them

"You" - Aquatones..i know it and alot of folks do too, not obscure to us. In the words of Rod Bernard "This should Go on Forever"...charted #20 1959(a hit by any standard)..probably not well known outside the southwes, unfamiliar to many...obscure is such a harsh word ...means ignorant of..see why I detest the term obsure when in come to Oldies. anytime I hear someone refering to an obsure song, i always think of it's meaning as someone with a limited knowledge....
...

That's fine except that 99.99% of your audience is not made of record collectors. In the ratings and revenue business, that's a killer.

I think you'd be surprised how many listeners are knowledgeable beyond..satisfaction, wipeout and It's my party. a tight playlist is a smoke screen for lack of knowldege beyond #39 on billboard Hot 100. Why wasn't it called the Hot 40, I wonder??? ratings and revenue, you say .......why is every oldies stations' ratings stink accross the country, today. Crappy playlists.

So, what did this board used to have on it?

Hardly nothing, before the song trivia this board has been very quiet.

Probably because '50s/early '60s radio has been very quiet. Unless you're talking about satellite or internet radio. And they have their own boards. I don't know of any major OTA markets that program this format. I hate to say it, but this board is obsolete.

Speaking of 50's and 60's you never gave us ,that I recall , your review of the Chuck Berry show you were going to attend a few months back. remember you're still under oath.

I saw Chuck in 1957, and again a few months ago. It wasn't the same show . Why would THAT be a surprise? His recent show was about a hour and 15 minutes. That's standard for a casino show..................they want to get the crowd out into the casino. It was a small venue, about 500 people. He did most of the songs the crowd wanted to hear, but maybe not always the full 2 1/2 minute versions. The crowd was happy. Chuck interacted well with the audience and seemed to be enjoying himself (why else would an 84-year old performer go on the road?). I got my money's worth and would go to see him again anytime.

I've been re-thinking this, and I was WRONG. This board is not obsolete. Just because commercial radio abandoned the format doesn't mean the board should disappear. I'm sure that the administrator would welcome posts related to '50s/'60s internet or satellite radio. So tell us what you like (or don't like) about XM/Sirius Channels 5 & 6. And tell us about some of those great internet streams you've found that most of us don't know about. Let's keep the spirit of "50s/'60s music alive, even though commercial radio doesn't.
