540 WLIE's Local Morning Show dropped today

Today in a business news magazine it was announced that WLIE has dropped al local morning programming. David Weiss and Amanda Clarke are out. The Connecticut radio operation that had been leasing the time all day except the mornings 9The Business Talk Net) has now full control of the daylight hours. Other locally brokered programs keep WLIE solvent. This once again is not good news for radio in general, AM stations here on Long Island and especially the use of local knowledgeable talent. I know both of these people in the morning, and they are good hard working and talented radio pro's. I hope they land somewhere bigger and better soon.

BTN syndicated part of their show, and part of their time slot was completely local business and not covered by the network. I've listened to Business Talk Radio and Dave and Amanda were fish out of water. The show was well produced and Dave and Amanda gave some personality to the network whose programming is otherwise very dry. Its not that the information isn't valuable or interesting, but for the most part the presentation put me to sleep. Dave and Amanda gave business some color. The local part was doomed because WLIE had already tried and failed at the local show route. Not enough listeners.

A very sad week for Long Island radio indeed. To David and Amanda, I thought you did a fantastic job and showed great flexiblitiy and professionalsm in accepting the challenge of creating a colorful business program for radio. Good luck to both of you, and whoever else had a hand in the program.

what a shame. I would listen from time to time online, and they did a great job. You've got two VERY talented people there. They will be picked up somewhere, and soon!<P ID="signature">______________

Not right now. Mr Henry makes his money on the brokered evening stuff, and doesn't clear BTR during those hours. Of course, if BTR acquires 540, then all bets are off.

Actually 3 people, Mark Goldman was the producer for that show. I've had a chance to watch him work and he was relentless. Any lead, any person, any thing that show needed Mark got.

Hey Mark keep in touch I still owe you that beer.

I would just like to commend all of you who have posted to my original message: Your comments were intelligent, compassionate and professional. I know both of these people (david and amanda) and was worried that "some" wannbe radio types would trash them, as they have others using this board. I thank you all for showing some Long Island local radio spirit!
--Can anyone lend me the 2.5 mill I need to buy a station?? Don't respond--it's an attempt at a humorous remark--actually against the law to do that over e-mail....go figure!

best of everything Dave and Amanda!

You want to see an example of hateful posts. Take a look at the NYRMB and the thread on Sid Rosenberg's departure from WFAN.
