I wonder how long Johnny will run News/Talk at the bottom of the ratings?. Eventually, he'll park a music format on 100.3's mighty 100 KW. In retrospect, he should have done an automated something while he was getting 100.3 rebuilt post Citadel LMA.

That's a great question. It's no secret that he made more money off of the country format than any other format or lean he's tried. But I don't think they'll change formats anytime soon. But if they did country would be the best choice.

If only they had an owner, GM, and air staff that had ever had any success with country music.

All he needs to do is shave about 4 more share points off of the frog and its rimshots and South Central will be the number one group in the market.

W25-54 it appears that The B holds a commanding lead over the frog, especially during commute and work hours.

I would say the biggest hold up will be getting Dave to back time records.

Borrow from Jim Dick: Instrumental leading up to the top of every hour. Whether you need it or not.

Find somebody who can do any combination of Claude, Lester, or Old Man Schultz. Have them on regularly. They can phone it in. Call it the heavenly hotline. The frog wouldn't dare do it. It would remind people how so much has changed. Maybe 93.1 will do it. Is there anybody on staff or in their audience who is old enough to remember Claude?

Looks like it's going to be a tough summer on Old Kingston Pike. Times must be difficult when a businessman is more concerned about results than impressing the tight-skirted lady trying to #1 him out of a few hundred bucks.

Meanwhile, over on The Ridge, the sales department is trying something called 'professionalism'. It seems to be working. It's too radical an idea to last, though. Not with all that eye candy graduating from UT.

Brilliant idea. And I'll take it a step forward and say WNOX should do this. Can Ramsey and replace him with Denton, bring the "old guard" back and wear out "The Best of Janie Fricke" albums that are surely gathering dust in the garage.

You would figure that Bobby is in an awkward spot right now. A lot of his buyout had to have been in (now worthless) Citadel stock. He's probably welcome in his old building, but he can't like the internal politics there. And are there any cute 25 year-olds that are drawn to an old guy who USED to be powerful?

Bet'cha a guy like that could be available to anyone who could get him some really good health insurance and offer a little free reign. And a cute, young, naive intern or assistant.

A home office's self-preserving moves have permanently affected the dominant radio group here in town. The arrogance that came from that dominance disappeared about two minutes after they realized that, while WNOX had a bad first book, it was a disastrous book for Citadel Knoxville as a group. You can dismiss one book as a fluke, but you have to point to bad two books in a row as an honest-to-Jeebus trend.

If they cough up the dough to keep 94.3, South Central can become the dominant group in town this year.

Next trends to watch: Can Old Kingston Pike learn to sell what will become a second tier product and can Sharps Ridge avoid the temptation to cheap out and load up with an airhead sales staff?

Citadel/Cumulus is heading to Second Tier over corporate stupidity. So, South Central and Journal are getting ready to be the two cats pouncing on the Cheap_A_Del/Cume-You-Less group. So, Citadel, don't let the door hit you on your way down. Takes 45 years to be East Tennessee's Country choice, only takes 45 seconds to ruin all that reputation.

It certainly is quite a shame to see whats happening to the empire that took Jim Dick decades to build. Corporate bumbling at it's best. Or worst, however you want to look at it.

The best thing to come from this is that the arrogant will learn a little humility.

A full five day work week. No replies. Hundreds of new page views. The smug ones must be hibernating. It's a brave new world.

Anybody got the actual Arb numbers? All I have found is some 12-plus shares, which are basically useless, as the race that matters between the newstalks is Adult Males (25-54 and 35-64, I believe) and maybe some Adults (M and F included) in those same age demos. Would also like to see which demos account for the Frog's declines. Whatever happened to the numbers being all over town a couple of days after being released?

The coach must have been right...only subscribers got the numbers, and they ain't talkin'!

We seem to be moving from a world of big, simple numbers to something a little more complicated. WIVK used to be #1 in young, old, men, women, cats, dogs, and pigs. Now they're losing their younger audience and women to their competitors. Talented sales departments are going to make hay with this. Order-takers are going to starve eventually.

The 12+ numbers don't do WNOX justice. M-F 6a -7p they're #1 Men 35+. 98.7 is #5. The Rush Limbaugh Show has lost substantial audience with the weaker signal. If you were to combine Sports Animal, it would beat 98.7 in older men. WNOX can't talk about this because they don't subscribe.

But there are literally dozens of ways to slice an audience, and literally dozens of ways you can divide a daypart.

We are now watching the true decline of WIVK, and the rise of South Central. But it's a jump ball. Anybody else can step up at any time.

The toes you step on during the trip up are connected to the buttocks you'll be welcomed to kiss on the way down.
