680 The Fan Update Guy Fired For Slamming Delta Air Lines On Twitter

Here's the skinny from Rodney Ho:
http://blogs.ajc.com/radio-tv-talk/...he-was-fired-for-tweets-about-delta-airlines/

Chadd Scott... he was let go from the Fan, where he does sports updates for the station’s afternoon shows. Here’s a sample Tweet from yesterday: “the bean counter who saved delta a few bucks in st. lou hoping he wouldn’t need more de-icing fluid this year screwed a lot of people today”

Well, they say these things come in threes... First, Gilbert Gottfried, then Chadd Scott... who's next?

I thought to myself when I was reading his Tweets that it may not be the best idea. It probably didn't help that Buck Belue made mention of his issues on the air though. I'm going to assume that management knew about the Tweets anyway.

I don't blame the station for letting him go if not doing so meant losing a lot of revenue from Delta. And he obviously did not use the best judgment in Tweeting those things. That said, I think it's nuts that Delta threatened to pull off the station for what is, in perspective, a little thing. Asking him to stop would have been more appropriate. This was a tremendous overreaction on Delta's part.

Tweeting with TRUSTED friends or relatives is OK, but putting it out there as if the whole internet world is interested in whether you go to Taco Bell or McDonald’s is weird IMHO. If you have to tweet where you are and what you are doing you might have some kind of delusional disorder. Also one of your tweet followers could be waiting for you to be away from home to break in and steal your stuff, or worst.

With this, I somewhat to almost strongly agree.

I read a Delta employee's Facebook reaction and she pointed out that it wasn't Delta's fault about the lack of deicing fluid. She said the amount of deicing fluid ordered was an airport manager's decision. Not that it matters now but I thought it was an interesting response. Apparently, Delta has enough PR problems with their employees throwing down with being treated unfairly with how they record their flying time for crews to be paid. And they are now going after any employee posting criticism on any of the social websites.

Delta thinks they have troubles now, just wait until Southwest attacks "Fortress Atlanta". As for how Delta treats their employees, they are trying to "de-unionize" the Northwest part of the Airline as fast as they can. Screwing around with pay will make those flight attendants that voted against and lost union coverage, a warm feeling.

Thanks for the link. I never realized that "non talents" had a Twitter following. Just because you have a British accent that does not make you a talent. I noticed that even CNBC and Fox's version has some British Dudes behind the desk. I guess we can all thank Simon from Idol for this. As for Delta, you thought Air Tran was a pain wait till Southwest takes over those gates on Concourse C.

Hopefully I'm not off topic here, but since we're talking about Twitter, I was just reading today that country singer LeAnn Rimes personally called up someone who criticized her extramarital affair on Twitter and had a 20-minute phone battle with them, which is now posted on the Internet in its entirety. If you're a platinum-selling singer, I can't imagine why you would bother fighting with someone you only know as "@JohnDoe."

During the Chick-fil-A flap, Andy Richter of the Conan O'Brien show (as well as plenty of other celebrities) posted a stream of stuff about what he thought of Chick-fil-A, and told followers who scolded him that he was on Twitter for his own enjoyment and if they didn't like his opinions they should think of unfollowing. Kinda surprised this sports talk guy is in trouble and nothing happened to Andy Richter. (And I'm a big fan of Andy, by the way.)

Delta is a customer of WCNN. My rule #2 for OTA radio types ( after #1 no bad language) Do not bite the hand that feeds your employer. IIRC most of Chick-fil-A's OTA's commercials are local market purchases, so there was no impact on NBC.

There is a lot to post about. 92.9 really surprised me. When 107.1 gets in market with a signal similar to the old 106.7 (pre Fish stick), somebody will get "bumped". You actually have a radio "War". 94.9 verses 101.5 in country. CC most likely will have to do something to get 105.7 on a better signal.

The new 107.1 signal will not be quite as good over Atlanta as the former 106.7 signal. 107.1 will put a 60dbu signal into about half the market. The former 106.7 signal threw 60dbu into just about the entire market.
