810 AM Office Pool

The mic processors are obviously maladjusted....and the board ops seem to have a hard time riding the gain. The spot levels also seem to vary wildly from one spot to the next, and the Optimod is wheezing trying to keep things under control. Their "engineer" seems to be a recording studio producer from what I understand and never worked in radio before. Since taking over and cleaning house, Jan Richard has not been keeping track of the audio chain at all. To quote George Takei, "Oh, My!"

Where are the towers to this station? We were on the John Young Parkway around Silver Star. Aren't the sticks near there somewhere? Interference from power lines, and a signal that sounded like it might be 250 watts..but really weird audio. Sounded like a real low bit rate Internet feed, and low level. Swirling highs, and just stupid distortion. This was on a rented Chrysler minivan..and it had a pretty decent radio. How could anyone be expected to listen to that? Lost the station almost comppletely. At the OBT and Lee Road. Whew..sad.

Judging from the time of your post it sounds like you may have been listening to them after they powered down. WRSO runs only 400 watts at night in a cloverleaf kind of pattern. I remember listening to them when they were True Oldies one night while driving westbound towards Ocoee. Within the space of two blocks the station went from Scott Shannon to typical nighttime AM noise from Cuba and other parts unknown.

810's sticks are located at the corner of Mercy and Princeton...four of them. The sound of the station has been awful lately; not sure who's supposed to be on top of those things, but the internet feed is even worse. Weird swelling, outlandish variations in levels and distorted mic audio. A shame, but with this kinda sound, I don't hold out much hope....

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I seems as if 810am is a warning to other stations as what not to do. It's like a series of increasingly unfortunate decisions at that place. I would hate to see anyone lose their gigs, but if more syndicated Yahoo programming is coming in I would say that the writing is on the wall.

Hey! Someone finally got around to swapping out the bad module at the transmitter site! Full power again, finally, for the one or two of you who might be interested. :)
