87.7 Stunting?

Yeah, somewhat of a double meaning for Clevelanders Rock: One could mean them complimenting the area (or kissing up, you decide), the other could mean it's rock for Clevelanders and they don't understand how to make something possessive.

I don't care for the name either. I appreciate them trying to go local, but couldn't they just use a different name (and format)?

Or maybe they will highlight "Clevelanders" - Cleveland artists to some great extent? Seattle had their turn with grunge, LA and SF had their tunes in the spotlight, etc.

And, actually, the audio on tonight's broadcast was so garbled, that you couldn't make anything out. How many ways are they testing the equipment to make it work? This will have to be the most tested equipment in broadcast history. At the rate they're going, they'll still be testing in 2015 when they have to surrender the liscense to the FCC.

What the hell is going on with this thing?

First they do a phony publicity stunt with a cattle call of rag-tag "performers" each doing three minutes on a stage, as if that is supposed to show how great they will be on the radio. None are selected. What a surprise.

Then they hire a PD who quits, reportedly because of budget disputes. What a surprise.

Then they hire one of the owner's old assistant promotion guy as the host of the morning drive show! What a surprise.

They have been endlessly "testing" for weeks and weeks. Nothing.

What is going on behind the scenes with this thing? Sounds completely unorganized and shoestring.

Don't you mean they've been testing for months? Is it because they are still trying to get the format together. It shouldn't take this long and I'm tired of waiting for it.

Probably cold feet. They must've realized this is a bad idea so they're trying to think of a different route for the upcoming station.

Maybe that partly explains the absence of the "Clevelanders Rock" name, except for at the title bar. The station has got to be REALLY good if they're taking their time to launch. If I was running the station, I would at least get the music going before launching completely with the jocks.

Tune in now, it's "the final countdown", female DJ. people calling in and asking for "The Final Countdown", seem to have a few versions of this title, even non-English. Didn't even listen long enough to catch who the jock was, or if she really indeed is live. No video on channel 6 except for a black screen.

Their STUNTING has flipped formats three times in three months. That's got to be some sort of record.

I just saw on OMW that 87.7 might have hired a new PD. Let's hope this one sticks around. My guess is the hold up is because they needed to hire a PD so he (or she) can put a line-up together. I do wonder if there will be more changes on-air than what was planned.

Around 11:44PM, I'm hearing different versions of "The Final Countdown" with the jacked up audio. I don't know what the song means, but who knows. Maybe by tomorrow (Friday the 7th), it will be better.

I heard that last night too. I realize stunting is stunting, and I'm not making a terribly original point here, but 1970s Cleveland sports fight songs, a cassette loop of #1 songs from the 1950s to the early 90s, and a loop of different versions of a fairly-hated-in-rock-circles early 80s song is really strange stunting for what is supposedly going to be an AAA. They've been receivable for what, three months now? Wouldn't you at least play SOME clips of what to expect on the station in the hopes of catching some folks pressing seek in their cars? I don't know.

I agree. There should be a sample of what the format should sound music-wise on that station. I'm willing to bet the staffers are getting fed up with the delays. Maybe with the new PD, the station can now finally get ready for launch. The question is when?

New 87-7 PD is allegedly Marty Bender (Sobol). Marty is a M105 alum and most recently was Exec Producer for the syndicated Bob and Tom Show for over a decade before recently being shown the door. Marty also at one time was PD of B&T's home station, the high rated WFBQ/Indy. Marty has a good rep, a good guy as well.

I'm wondering if they are purposely holding that frequency and putting crap on it due to keep the freq going to someone else, thus tightening up what freq's are available in the area, to protect another established station or group of stations? I'm surprised the FCC hasn't stepped in with the constant horrible a/v quality. Maybe it's all a big ploy to keep the freq from a would-be competitor.

Yeah, I think you are on to something, Danny. There is no way it should be taking this long to get the station up and running.

The station apparently went live a couple of hours ago.

First song - Pearl Jam's "Betterman" - live from the Q, May 20, 2006 #87.7FM #Cleveland

https://twitter.com/rachelsteelecle/status/244970026048815105

I turned it on about 15 minutes ago and this is what I have heard..

I Will Wait - Mumford and Sons
What I Got - Sublime (sounded like a more acoustic version that the original)
Everlong - Foo Fighters (not really an AAA song)
Lost in the Supermarket - The Clash
Linger - The Cranberries
Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
Freeway of Love - Aretha Franklin
All Apologies - Nirvana (I really hope this is because it is after midnight, because that is one of the oddest song jumps I have ever heard)
Simple Song - The Shins (finally another recent song)
Green Day - She (Just heard a promo promising 877 songs in a row)

Comes across as more of a very gold-oriented alternative than an AAA, but I not sure you can totally go by six songs how the format will be.

The website http://877cleveland.com/ still says coming soon, even though the slogan has changed to 87.7 Cleveland's Sound. A twitter post from Rachel states that streaming should be coming soon.

NOTE: After I initially posted this, the very next song was Freeway of Love by Aretha Franklin, so I dont know what is going on now.
