KJOJ/KQUE simulcast is ID'ing as only KQUE/Houston. Caught it at 8:00. No sign of KJOJ's ID. Shame on you Liberman!
Are your listeners in Conroe not worth your time?
Those listners could be worth more than time, but $$$$.
It's too bad LBI doesn't sell stations, because 880 would be an ideal frequency to sell to someone that was willing to make 880 a live and local station for Montgomery, Walker and Northern Harris Counties. A News - Talk station 5am to 7pm and Adult Standards 7pm to 5am. The News would cover Montgomery County primarily, with the more important stories in Walker and Northern Harris County secondary. The station would have a population of at least 1.5 million in that region. Even if 880 just focused on Conroe, The Woodlands and Spring you would have around 150,000 people in that area, with Conroe 47,415 (2006est), Spring 36,345 (2006est) and The Woodlands 67,725 (2006est). More than ample for AM & PM Drive News Blocks, also a noontime News Block. The other daytime hours have local Talk shows of interest to the region or even certain cities on some days. I chose Adult Standards as the music as it is a format missing in the metro area, but what ever would be the biggest draw should be the format, be it Classic Country or Classical.
The KNRO and KMCO call letters are in use and KCWS (Conroe, Woodlands, Spring) and KCSW are on a Low Power FM's, but the rights to AM could probably be gained. Another possibility is KMHW (Montgomery, Harris, Walker {Counties}) that the Coast Guard is currently using, but will release the call sign.
If whoever bought the station had the assests to build a new array and move it around New Waverly, the station could cover Huntsville at night and still cover Montgomery and northern Harris with an increase of power to 5000 watts. 880 already has a minor lobe to the north of Conroe for about 20 miles.
The station would be a "hit" with the region as it would be the only hometown station, something many stations are going to have to do if they are to become relevant again to listeners. It would be "narrowcasting" since it wouldn't be intended for all of metro Houston, but if 880 just served Conroe, Spring, and The Woodlands, the population of 150,000 would make it the 150th largest city in the US. If they served Montgomery, Walker and Northern Harris Counties with approximately 1.5 million people that would be the 5th largest city in the country. It is a shame that LBI will never do that or give someone else the chance to try the format.
KGBC 1540 Galveston is another station that could be restored to it's former importance if the owners, Siga Broadcasting Corp of Houston, did the same thing for Galveston, Brazoria and Southern Harris County, especially now with their upgrade to 2500 watts daytime. I would think that KGBC could up their nighttime power from 250 watts and cover more than just Galveston at night. It may mean a separate site at night with the antenna array in Northern Galveston County and 2500 watts. The station would start making money again, instead of jumping from one syndicated Spanish or Asian language format every six months and likely losing money.
I wonder what 1380 KRCM will program if they are approved to move to Shenandoah? The station will be a daytimer as the night power and antenna location will not send a signal to any significant amount of people. The 65 watts with a Nighttime Interference Free coverage radius of approximately 1.9 miles is not going to serve many people. The NIF is 15.92mV/m, fairly high and very low power equals very little nighttime coverage. What Sports Network isn't covered?
