89.3 Dhoom FM is dhoomed

nd2023

Banned
Yesterday I noticed the 100.7 translator in Edison was broadcasting static. 89.3 was off the air. Today, the 100.7 translator is off the air and WLEV is crystal clear. 89.3 is still off the air.

Dhoom is History. The transmitter and cabinet rack have been disconnected and removed.
The translator is still intact and the owner is looking for another station that might want it.
The frequency 100.7 is a bad frequency to be on so most likely it will be moved to New Brunswick to be use on a better frequency 104.7 that the owner owns as well. He'll have better luck finding someone for 104.7 then 100.7. So no more screaming pigs LOL ;D

Per The Northeast Radio Watch by Scott Fybush:

"*A small NEW JERSEY FM signal is now history: WDDM (89.3 Hazlet) and its translator on 100.7 both went silent last week, with the 89.3 signal giving way to a new higher-powered religious station coming to that frequency."

Yay, more GOD squad power to save us all. *sarcasm*

They should have applied themselves during the non-comm window a few years ago.

I wonder if they looked into the old WBGD's frequency? Up until last summer they were a fully licensed Class A station.

100.7 should translate Party FM!

So I guess 89.3 really was Dhoomed. RIP

Im sorry, but I don't think ANY station should be simulcasted on that translator. I was by the former Cittone Institute about a few weeks ago NEAR the translator and WLEV/WHUD was ripping a hole on that signal there.

oh no... one can only take so much over modulated commercials clearly violating the rules of being a non-comm.

i know it'll never happen, but one could wish for a return to the original WCNJ.

Listen to a lot of foreign language radio do you?

When there is one radio station that broadcasts in your native language, it is the best radio station on the dial.

WCNJ can't come back there is a 4KW religious station going to be built on 89.3.

Perhaps Dhoom FM can save itself from being dhoomed permanently by going on an HD2 station in New York and then translating the HD2 on 100.7.

And yes, Mikey, I miss you! lol

Why pay for it when you are a displaced station? The Brick, NJ station would be better than the flea power they were using.

Ask the tower company they were with about Dhoom... they might have a few choice words.

They violated the non-comm underwriting rules every day with :60's with numerous calls to action, qualitative and quantitative statements and the whole 9 yards. Why they got a free pass I'll never know. Either it's a rule for everybody or a not a rule at all.

89.3 was the best "8 watt" signal I heard. It could be heard consistently from Princeton to Brooklyn. For it to get out as far, it had to be more than 8 watts.

So if there wasn't a new station 89.3 they would have lost their license? Not likely, they would have had 104.7 but couldn't get clearance from a station in NYC.
They never technically payed a fine but they did do something that I have seen a number of stations do and that is admit no guilt and offer to make a "contribution" to the US Treasury and they did.

I can't believe that they paid 500K for that station. They have a very nice operation over there besides the radio station which includes satellite TV uplink, three good sized TV studios, and a cable station. They also own a well known convenience store chain in NJ.

It should be either a rule for everybody or not a rule at all. Where do you stand on pirate radio stations that sell commercial time? Nothing being done on that front Boston is a great example of that.

That's exactly what they're doing now. 100.7 W264BT in Edison is now back on the air, translating the Indian music programming of 98.7 WRKS-HD2 in NYC. The signal is now in "stereo", although I use that term loosely due to the terrible digital compression artifacts of the HD2 stream.
