8PM MONDAY

"I thought the characters were not fully developed and the ending was a bit contrived and somewhat predictable"

I was thinking the current Book, not the Movie "Next"

:)

Maybe its so quiet because everyone on here just works at Clear Channel, SBS, Inner City, or Emmis ....who were ALL down or just flat. Wow, did anybody have good day other than CBS?

It's terrifyin' I tell ya! Simply terrifyin! People droppin' like flies. Jack is doomed. Be afraid. Be vewy vewy afwaid...

Took four posts into the thread before I could even figure out what the topic was. :p

Very nice start for Fresh. There was definitely some good sampling going on. Now we just need to see if they hold onto it. I'd say CBS has a good chance of having a successful station here. If that's the case, look for a format flip by the end of the year for 102.7 (No no! Successful station? Can't have that! *FLIP*)

Jack is still treading water. Doesn't seem like anything's going to help them at the moment.

Free FM? They're circling around in the seventh circle of ratings hell right now. Any bets on when they'll flip?

Jack is now in the top 10, 25-54. That means they will make it on most major buys in the market.

What jumps out at me is that every urban station is down. Was it a diary placement issue? Did the weighting change?(I thought that takes place each Fall, not Winter).

Maybe Hip Hop is in decline (some would say dying) right now, both HOT and POWER have been trending down for several books. However, both Urban ACs are also down below their normal range as well.

David...somehow I just knew you'd chime in. "Top 10 25-54...they'll be in on most agency buys." Gimme a break. The station is DYING. $16-mil last year, $23-mil with oldies and $40-mil five years ago.

It's a trainwreck with a lot less appeal than other 25-54 buys.

Now, argue that point, as you surely will...and we'll see if Jack remains at $16-mil with three quarters of a year to go.

Treading water isn't smart buys for any station, top 10 or not...especially as unpopular a move as this was, and the revenues prove it.

Professor Jerry DelColliano of USC tells it best...

The first full year of "Jack" only did $16.1 million.

$40 million down to $23.9 million down to $16.1 million.

And if you're looking for ratings, "Jack" is weak there, too.

It's on his blog...

I'll accept that as fact since I have no reason to think it isn't.

To say that Jack is doing well would be overstating the case. It's doing ok. Not great, but ok. It's just not going anywhere. It's bopped between a 2.1 and a 2.2 for the last 4 books. At least it's consistent, I'll give them that much.

The problem child is clearly Free FM, and that's where CBS should be focusing their time. The one to keep an eye on is WFAN now that Imus is gone. They may need to do some overhauling at 66 as well.

Would the FAN bring in non sports talk??

I know IMUS wasn't sports, but it was the flagship of the network. I mean real non sports talk. Turn it into a talk station first(5a-1p or 2p). M&MD second and all sports at night. Would they be able to pick up male listeners with the first 2 shows and move them into sports the rest of the day??
