9/26/16 Nielsen Ratings In

I know we are talking 6+ 6am-12M ratings numbers but it appears both the Houston and the Dallas ratings mark a big change. I haven't checked other markets.

Sunny 99, KODA has always lead the heap in Houston and Kiss FM in Dallas. This book shows KLTN and The Eagle knocking out KODA's time at the top. A fluke? Maybe so. But just as strange, KHKS, Kiss FM has been at the top like KODA, now edged out by KPLX and KLUV.

Keep in mind 6+ overall ratings are worth what we pay for them. It's all about dominating in the right demographic that wins.

Just based on these two markets, might this be a rather odd seasonal adjustment or perhaps more refined research rearing it's head here? For quite a few stations there was a big swing, sometimes up to 10% or more. Something tells me the same ol' is no more either in methodology or some other factor.

KLTN actually edge out KODA by 0.1 in the August book (P6+), ending Sunny's 23 book run at the top.
KHKS fell to KLUV in January, and recovered for four books before again falling to KLUV for two books; they then rebounded back to #1, before sliding behind both KLUV and KPLX (its first #1 since May 14) in this book. Markets change and evolve. Panelists are cycled in and out. One book does not make a trend, which is why most still continue to look at three-month averages and compare year-to-year numbers to see what is a fluke and what is a true trend.

Here are some demo rankings for Houston for the September book (which covered Aug 12 - Sep 7)
Persons 18-34
1. KBXX
2. KQBT
2. KLTN
4. KTBZ
5. KLOL

Persons 25-54
1. KLTN
2. KGLK
2. KODA
4. KLOL
5. KTBZ

I still wonder what's going on with CBS Radio. Except for KLOL, most of their stations still are struggling. Not only is KKHH still sliding (I discovered their midday and night slots not being filled yet), but KHMX appears to have gotten lower.
