Yet they had to sell off what was arguably their best signal (at least in terms of covering the city), 98.3 to the K-Love folks at fire sale speed a few years ago.

They didn't need it anymore after the Burgettstown move. Plus there was the tax incentive behind it.

To the best of my knowledge, the sale has never closed, and Keymarket is still leasing the 98.3 signal
to EMF/K-Love. Also, notwithstanding the change of COL, 103.5 is still transmitting from Steubenville.

104.3 did move their tower several miles, but neither 103.5 nor 104.3 has a great signal in downtown
Pittsburgh, or in some parts of Allegheny County, primarily to the south and east.

Oh well, they were never meant to be Pittsburgh signals in the first place. You can't make something into something it isn't. Just ask the folks at Sheridan how the move to Wexford for 106.7 worked out. ::)

It was much, much better than the signal from Beaver Falls.

Just curious when Sheridan moved 106.7 out of Marion Hill, Pulaski Twp to its new site in Wexford were they able to drop the FM directional antenna? I believe that that was needed to protect a station in Canton (?) when they made the jump a full powered B. I also heard a rumor that directional FM antenna's had a tendency to produce some odd side-effects (don't know if that's true either) - Any info is appreciated - Thanks much!

Oh, BTW - I must really be missing something or looking in the wrong places FCC.gov - I can't find the updated application for 92.1 translator only the app they filed in '03 how did you get the new info? Thanks again!

I think that's the wrong question... WAMO's downfall was moving from 105.9 to 106.7, while it was still in Beaver Falls. It got higher ratings in Youngstown than it did in Pittsburgh during that time. By the time the move-in was accomplished it was too late.

This info is correct. The coordinates point to a communications tower at the end of College Avenue in
Jeannette.

Clarke...is that the old WBCW tower?

No, it is not, but the WBCW tower is still standing.

I completely agree. WKDD in Akron faced a similar situation. On 96.5 they were #1 in the market
for years. When Clear Channel decided to repurpose 96.5 as a de facto Cleveland CHR, WKDD was
moved to an inferior signal (98.1 Canton) and fell to the middle of the pack. Even though 98.1 has
since been upgraded twice and now sits on the same tower from which 96.5 used to transit, WKDD
has never recovered.

That would have been WRQK 106.9 in Canton. I think they are still going by Rock 107 with an active rock format. Back in the 80's they were AOR with the call letters WOOS. I always thought it was kind of strange that a rock station would have calls that practically spelt out wuss. ::)

WOOS (W-One-Oh-Seven) was originally an automated Top 40 station, co-owned with WINW 1520,
which had been Canton's Top 40 station for many years. After buying 106.9, WINW took it Top 40,
and the AM went to a nostalgia format.
