The stream continues playing jockless, commercial-free standards music. The only interruptions come from the occasional Jim Lange liner, and the legal ID at the top of the hour.

Are you referring to the Internet stream or the actual over-the-air broadcast? They may be the same feed right now, but when Coast takes over 92.1 (Friday? Saturday?) they'll have something different on the air.

As I said previously, I don't think that Clear Channel will keep the KABL Adult Standards stream going on the Internet for very long (although they are keeping the KABL call letters alive on 1460 in Salinas) ... unless they switch 960 in Oakland back.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.

As I've said before the KABL webcast will continue as will the KABL format on 1460 in Salinas! Got friends in high places!
BTW the 92.1 station in Walnut Creek is still with the KABL calls and music.

...Until midnight on Thursday. It becomes KKDV, Diablo Valley's Hometown Station, no later than Saturday -- but perhaps as early as Friday.

So are you going to tape the grand openning?

I figure, since I don't get 92.1 too well here, I'll just record KKIQ and yell "92.1 KKDV!" into the mike each time they do an ID.

The KABL stream WILL continue.

That would pretty much do the trick, lets hope the RCS doesn't crash!! What ever happened to "live" radio with carts and cd players and time ques???? now it's hard drives and computers!!!!

...but for how long? At a certain point Clear Channel will figure out that there are only a few listeners to the online feed. We had this discussion previously: how many older adults (that is, KABL's target audience) are listening online?

As I mentioned farther down in this thread, if the format is going to survive locally, CC will eventually have to move it back on the air on one of their "real" Bay Area stations. Unless they plan on letting the call letters rot down in Salinas forever...

CC might revive the format here -- even on AM -- if they went kitschy, more of the ultra-cool "cocktail lounge" style rather than "gee, wasn't Frankie Laine great back in 1954 when we were kids?"

Make it more hip and cool, and a new KABL might attract a broader audience. I'm not saying ignore your core older listeners; just widen it out by appealing to younger listeners who might enjoy the music, too.

With all due respect, an Oldies or Adult Standards station doesn't have to hire air talent that is as old as its target demo. Hire some younger voices who can energize the station.

Whoops ... just went off on a tangent.

And its called "Lazy Mans Radio" which equals nothing put in nothing received in return. And the programers wonder why nobody listens to their station. At least the Coast programed stations try to buck this trend with hometown radio.
