Its now WXRK. Is a new format on the way? They are refering to themselves at just 92.3 and not 923X anymore. They don't even have Igor doing the sweepers.

WXRK is the former call letters of KROCK(now a FreeFM) station in New York.

Wow, the old K Rock NYC calls, nice!

I'll have to check them out for the new voice, any idea who it is?

Glad to see they're evolving further. Musically, they sound better than ever. Now if only the jocks and imaging could catch up; guess we'll see...

Wow....interesting. I didn't notice is during the countdown. I'll have to listen tomorrow. I notice a new logo on their website. I can't believe they'd be trying new imaging and all tomorrow....it was just a few months ago that they switched over from the old imaging....talk about not being able to make up their minds.
______________

Well, tonight was certainly a shock to me! I was driving home from a new years party and heard new imaging... without my voice or production! It sounds like Production Director Tony Frazer and Kim Monroe as the new voices for now. This doesn't look good for me! Damn it, that station was my main income source! Hey Bo, have anything at Buzzard-land for me?!

I noticed the following about 92.3:
- they're playing a lot of 90's rock
- no dj (as they put it, "look out 92.3 is on random play)
- as mentioned before, they're no longer calling themselves 923X (even though the logo on thier website says "923X cleveland rock alternative")
- heard a couple sweeps that went something like: "92.3 just rocks", and one that was like "92.3, it's about the music"(very simular to fm949 in San Diego)
- also heard a sweep that went something like "we're building a new 92.3 for the new year, stayed tuned"
- the metal show that's normally heard on sunday nights from 10:00-12:00 won't be heard for the next three weeks

Hmmmmmmm... taking the WXRK call letters, no dj's, new imaging without consulting the current imaging guy, I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
Revamped playlist?(very possible/almost a sure thing) New on-air staff?(realistic) Moving up the dial to 98.5 or 104.1 perhaps? (probably not, but has anyone heard anything on any other infinity, I mean CBS stations?)

I guess we'll find out tomorrow after Rover at 11:00.
______________

Will 92.3 be "Free FM" as of tomorrow at 11am? Classic-Alternative even maybe?

As far as the FCC database goes, WXRK is still licensed to 92.3 in NYC and WXTM to 92.3 here in Cleveland.

For the most part the new sweeps are music oriented (see below), so my GUESS is that they'll stay with some form of alternative rock. I wouldn't be a bit surpised if it's classic-alternative (perhaps the smells like an end weekends were market research). How about a talk/alternative format like WHFS in Baltimore? Just throwing it out there.

Not to stir the pot or anything, but a search shows that the domain "923krockfm.com" was registered - though not by CBS - on December 12, 2005.
______________

Could this mean no more Iggy on my radio dial? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Life is so unfair.

I love when everyone starts guessing what is going on with 92.3. Always fun to see how close you all get (or don't), to the truth. Keep going!

I love it when some hipster with the name "richwithhatred" actually CARES about what a bunch of folks opining on the state of a radio station's goings-on on an open message board have to say.
Kinda like when you see the punk and goth posers hanging around the mall..you know, they just don't seem to get how silly they look.
"Don't conform (but really do)"!
...and really, what do YOU have to be rich with hatred about, Chris? You get fired from a VERY successful well paying gig for no damned good reason other than treating your audience like they have a brain in their head, or are you happily catering to the braying masses that have lock-stepped into your radio station's format, buying into what "the man" expects of you (re: sell-out)?
Wow. Maybe I should have taken that name.

Looks like Cleveland is getting a "K-ROCK", of sorts. Imaging needs to be stepped up. They should hire Jake Kaplan to it, no offense Igor. Jake is incredible. VO wise, need perhaps a Will Morgan, Steve Stone, or Sandy Thomas. Alhough Sandy needs to be produced really well or he doesn't sound that good.

I say this is 92-3's last "hurrah". If numbers/sales don't improve it gets flipped this time next year..if not sooner.

FM Talk could be coming to Cleveland. It's certainly cheaper to run. Rover or Mancow in AMD, Don & Mike, Loveline, plus entertaining talk radio shows that WTAM doesn't have. Perhaps Boortz?

FCC: WXRK(FM) 92.3 Cleveland Heights

> Looks like Cleveland is getting a "K-ROCK", of sorts.

The original "K-Rock" in NYC recently moved into an active rock direction, pushing the alt-rock to a webstream...of course, the on-air music format is now history. We may not know until they stop "random" stunting if Cleveland's 92.3 will mimic WXRK/NYC's last music format, or stick with what seems to be an alt-rock/classic alt-rock hybrid.

BTW, the FCC call sign request database shows the WXRK calls officially on 92.3 Cleveland Heights today, as reported earlier this afternoon on You Know What below :D

Re: FCC: WXRK(FM) 92.3 Cleveland Heights

Personally, my fingers crossed for the alt-rock/classic alt-rock hybrid; I think the odds are in this favor. Why do what WMMS is doing when it really isn't even working that well for them? (Active Rock with a moderate sampling of gold product)

A new paint job for 92.3. That's what we're essentially going to get.

tell Kim what you want

I agree with you. I've heard a sweep with Kim Monroe that went something like this (it's not quite word for word, but pretty close).

"Hi, this is Kim Monroe, programming director here at 92.3. A new year means big changes, and there are big changes coming to 92.3. I convinced the suits that as long as we're sucessful, they'll leave us along here at 92.3. So, we're going to make 92.3 into pretty much anything you want. So, as long as we're building the new 92.3 I want to hear your suggestions. Give me call at 216-861-1115 and let me know what you think."

So yeah, it definately sounds like this is 92.3's last chance. Also, it's cool that you can give your suggestions to Kim. So, if you want them to play certain music, or if there's a dj you don't like you can call Kim and tell her not to bring him back.
______________

I remember reading about when 92.3 flipped to WXTM. Only the engineer and Mike Luczak knew. The flip took place minutes before Lynn Tolliver's shift started - and he, IIRC, WAS IN THE STUDIOS. So it's not unprecedented. Though Igor should have known, IMHO.

AFAIK, WQAL and WNCX are still buisness-as-usual. I'd put the kibosh on a move to 98.5 IF ONLY on the short term due to the DLR entry. However, if he bombs...

"JackFM" for the rock set, perhaps? (under a K-Rock label)

Dude, do you REALLY think anybody cares about WXTM??!! So a bunch of radio people are talking about it on here. When you want to come back to reality, take a look at the station's numbers -- past and present. That'll truly tell you that noone cares. Keep on fishing, because that is exactly what you guys have been doing for years.
