92.3 KT'R-FM: Wrong Network?

What's up with the TOH ABC News on KT'R-FM?

Today at 0600, 0800, 1200 and 1600 I heard them using what
we used to call the ABC Entertainment Network (ABC-E) feed
rather than the "top level" ABC Information Network (ABC-I),
so I think it can be safely assumed they did this all day.

OK, KT'R insiders, what happened? Your number 1 or 2 (depending
on how you spin the spring book ;)) news/talker doesn't just
give up the primo ABC Radio news network willingly.

Nothing against Larry Jacobs on the E net (in fact I think I knew
him years ago in Tucson when he was starting out in radio), but
morning drive just isn't morning drive without "...from ABC News,
Iii'm Doug Limerick."

Did ABC get ticked off that you cut out at :02 (or :02:18 after
you factor in your delay) and don't run the network stopset,
except during nights and weekends? I'm not sure KT'R made the
spots good during the same hour--maybe there's so many spots
with the likes of Grandpa Gerald, Michael Dixon, Rosie, Monty, the
biz news shill, etc., that one doesn't really "hear" a network spot
from all the local clutter.

Or is this payback from ABC for dropping Paul Harvey?

Or did 5300 North get hit bad by last night's storm and their sat
dish got all bent and this is all they can pick up today?

This just in...

KT'R must have fixed their dish, or "made up" with the network,
or read R-I and realized they were airing the wrong feed all day,
because at 8:00pm (8:00:18 KT'R time ;)) they were back to
running the ABC-I network 'cast.

And they did not run the network stopset at 8:02.

Could be they haven't figured out the new satellite receiver that ABC sent out a couple month ago.

Monday ABC ran morse code (X-D-S) over the Hannity audio on the old satellite system to get the attention of those stations that haven't even take the new reciever out of the box. There was a July 15th dealine to get it on line.

come on you all, most engineers take care of several stations most of the time by themselves or with limited help plus you have all the IT work to do and if your lucky you have help. The storms we have been having can cause real issues with equipment even when you have surge protection and UPS's on your equipment. Also how many transmitters does each engineer have to deal with, AM's FM's studios, IT construction, remotes, etc. Granted some are better organized than others but no one is perfect. The new stuff coming out is a royal pain sometimes to get working correctly. Used to be with carts and tape it was in some ways easier but even with the advantages with computers getting every piece of equipment to talk to each other can be a royal pain. The new satellite receivers have to be given a static IP address, reboot themselves and sound so much better so give these guys a break. Things mess up

Good point, catfish. I've always been in awe of how radio engineers are able to keep things together when nothing seems to go right.

With the advent of new systems and proliferation of computers, it's a wonder more errors don't occur.

I still remember how I used to run a tape-delayed ABC news. Those were the days!! Reel-to-reel, tapes, carts and records!! :D
