92.3 promoting Z-100

People who are listening to NOW already know that. What NOW is doing is trying to change the perception of Z100. They are doing what they need to be doing.

And they are doing that with repetition, less variety, and a "not ready for New York" shout-out approach? I think Tic was about to ask for callers from "The Brooklyn." ;)

All I can say to your post is....give it time. There's a method to the madness. What they are doing, they are doing correctly. If someone else has the time to really break it down why they are doing what they are doing, go for it. I just don't have the time. ;D

(Sorry to take up too much of your time.)
It is obvious they're doing "Jammin' Currents."
But "insider" references to "Allan Sniffen" are like a dedication to "Dick Hertz."

A lot of stations the switch do that. Saying like down the dial on Hot their playing commericals while were playing commerical free hits.

This is silly...everyone in their target audience knows that Z100 exists. Mentioning them or not mentioning them on the air won't change that. I do think it is smart of them to provoke the competition, it certainly will draw attention.

Much of these first few days of 92.3 Now FM has been geared to tweak the competition and radio geeks, because face it, those are the people who were tuned in at 5pm Wednesday, breathlessly waiting to critique the choice of the first song. If there was ever a time to insult and rattle your competition, it's right at the start...before marketing begins (assuming they can afford it) and the masses start getting into 92.3 (if they're going to).

Likewise now's the time to drop a name like Sniffen...if he didn't hear it, you can bet that members of his flock did. They may have rushed to their keyboards hoping to scoop the rest of the board, but hardly anybody else out there noticed.

I wouldn't diss 92.3 for inside jokes and jabs at other stations quite yet. It's psychological warfare aimed at competitors and super-active listeners. It could very well die down when/if people with a life discover the station.

Exactly. This is a radio station. If I don't like the song I'm going to change the station. It's not that big of a deal. How many people actually leave one station on all day anyway.

I don't mind the knocks at Z. The imaging isn't as in you face as MOJO's was back in 91...and that station, on purpose or not did'nt last long! I like the female voice in the mix, but the guy is weak, will take some getting used too! I would have liked Pat Garrett! I think he's on WCBS 880.

Bingo! You nailed it.

a new station constantly moaning about the big star station always reminds me of Supremes Mary Wilson crying about Diana Ross all the time;
it really sounds like bitter sour grapes,and makes the Z fans want to remain Z fans(which they will);
people who are comfortable with Z(which is all of New York) would need a real reason to switch,and the flea biting the elephant's butt certainly won't be the reason./

I am confused by the whole Z100 "bashing" thing...

1. So far NOW is not even Z. Z has a ton more songs. If anything you think they would be digging at Hot or Power. Even then how many stations are already playing Kanye, TI etc? I'm still missing long term what's unique about Now, unless it changes direction a little.

2. They keep mentioning they have 10K songs, no commericials while Z has etc... Seems lame. What's going to happen in a 2 weeks or so? HA! Now clearly isnt going to be commercial free forever.

3. They keep including Z in the "list of things that suck" Really? Z100 sucks? Seems like a really childish insult of last resort. It's not even funny. Who says something like that? There are stations in NY I don't like because of music selection or what not, but to say they suck? and Z100 no less.

It just seems anyone over 16 sees through this nonsense. By Contrast PULSE 87 digs at KTwho all the time yet it barely gets mentioned around here. Why? Because it's actually funny or relevant in a light way.

(I'm neutral on both stations, just pointing out some observations)

One thing I find really interesting about the difference between radio and TV is: Z100 has not bashed Now back and that's smart. But if you watch FOX News Channel and MSNBC...MSNBC bashes FOX all the time, and Fox in turn bashes back, O'Reilly often really hits back. I've never understood that since FOX has 3 times as many viewers than MSNBC!

Should be interesting how long Now bashes Z. If Now knocks Z down out of #1 into the 3's 12+, Than we can say it worked I guess. If Z continues to dominate and Now gets no traction, the bashing will get stale quick. The average listener won't even notice the bashing for a while anyway. After all, most people couldn't tell you who sings "Yeah", much less which jocks are bashing which station!!

Explain how 600,000 people found 87.7. There will be more people who find 92.3 Now than Pulse 87 simply because 92.3 is a full powered station above 92. K-Rock listeners were the first to hear about Now, but only the Russian station listeners were the first to hear about Pulse. If I jump start my car, every preset becomes Pulse 87.

They like to say that, but FNC has trouble getting saleable demos. In 25-54, they are much closer.
