92.3 promoting Z-100

I don’t live in the NY area. I am, by nature, a format change freak, and a radio geek. Because of my location, I haven’t heard “Now FM,” and their bashing of “Z100.” I did hear the launch on a format change website where they said: “Z100. You’ve had the game to yourself for 30 years. That was then, and this is now.” Other than that, because I haven’t heard the station, I haven’t heard any “Z” bashing. My question, for those who have heard it, is what exactly is “Now” saying about “Z.” I’ve heard several general mentions of what they said, but does anyone have a transcript of the liners they’re running? (We all know that liners repeat.) As a radio geek, I’d be interested in reading some of the “Z” bashing. If it’s not appropriate for the board, please PM or email me. Thank you.

You obviously have internet access.
Like most stations, they stream.

Now FM just promoted Subway in a promo about z100s jingle comparing it to Subway's 5 dollar footlong ad song.

Dang it you got me going to Subway for a $5 Footlong. Listening to Z-100 on the way.

One thing I find really interesting about the difference between radio and TV is: Z100 has not bashed Now back and that's smart. But if you watch FOX News Channel and MSNBC...MSNBC bashes FOX all the time, and Fox in turn bashes back, O'Reilly often really hits back. I've never understood that since FOX has 3 times as many viewers than MSNBC!

Actually, it is Keith Olbermann who does most of the Fox Noise-bashing, yet interestingly, O'Reilly never says the "K" word...

And since we've got the news networks involved in this thread... Wouldn't it be funny to hear Z100 run a liner with MSNBC's David Shuster, whose nightly show features a segment called "Hypocrisy Watch"?

"Now 92.3 says Z100 plays old songs, then they play this --" (cue 1992's "Rump Shaker") "Now 92.3, that's hypocrisy... and it's wrong!!"

Yep, actually both go as far as the 90's (80's would be WAAAY too far back) (Although KTU seems to think we ARE in the 80's :p)

Then Now FM needs to cut those promos out that z100 plays old songs when 92.3 Now does also. Must be the one who made the promos didn't check with the song playlist or other way around.

I think that this thread has been hijacked by loyals of Z100. Yeah, New York has a new Top 40 station, and it just dropped a bunch of dog crap on the radio market, it's giving NYC some strong competition being commercial free. You wonder why people love Sat Rad so much, its because of no commercials, 923 doesnt have commercials and that's why they're stealing listeners from Z100 like its going out of style.

You win dumbest post of the week. Do you work for NOW? Dog crap is right in terms of quality so far.Not impressed. As for stealing listeners like it's going out of style, what does that even mean? Let's wait for PPM to determine that....then lets see what happens when the commercials start on NOW. Commercial free is a great gimmick for a few weeks. Then what? That remains to be seen. Right now all we have is sped up Top 40 with jocks who needed their old boss to get them to NY.

Wow i won an award, let me go have an orgasm.

Do i work for NOW? No, i don't even live in the coverage area. But you being a loyal K-Rock fan obviously will have some animosity towards the new station. And don't get me wrong, all stations have bumps in it in the beginning, but guess what the guy who programs 92.3 is a master at Top 40 Programming,he came into Detroit and took a station in 15th place and brought it to Number #1 and also took down a heritage Top 40 station at the same time here in Detroit. It only took him 3 years to do it

Z100, start running, you'll have to be pretty fast to beat these people.

Yes, Domino has been a great PD in the past, but with all due respect did you really just type that? The programming minds at Z-100 are second to none, and Dom knows that as he'd been a part of the CC family for so long. He'll be the first to admit that taking on Z-100 will be a lot more difficult than taking on DRQ.

I am not a disgruntled K-Rock fan. Sorry. Beating one Top 40 station in Detroit doesn't make you a master. It certainly doesn't give you a win over the biggest Top 40 on the planet with the best people (Including is old bosses) at the helm. You are from Detroit so I forgive you for not fully understanding the scope of Z100 and NY.

I'm from Detroit? Interesting, So i commute to a job in westchester county each day from Detroit eh? Alright, i guess. Since we've ruled out your not a K-Rock hippie, im assuming your a Cheap Channel junkie that worships all their media platforms. Guess what, in NY, WSPK blows Z100 out of the water, and covers close to tripple the area Z100 does. Get your facts right guy.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous.
K-104.7 is a great station but it "does not blow Z-100 out of the water".
The reason why a small market CHR, aka K-104.7, sounds so great is b/c its heavily influenced by Z-100, and part of the Hudson Valley listening audience commutes to jobs in the NYC market.

I hate to say it, but you all are fools. it is all about PPM - that means song for song - NOT who or what your favorite station is.

The reason Pulse picked up 800,000 listeners or whatever without advertising was because there was no NEW dance station... in New York, there is a CHR, it's Z100, a station that basically every CHR station in the country tries to be! LOL I mean let's be honest... There are "Z" CHR's all over the country basically trying to be like a mini-Z100 New York.

I know when I was 19 and getting my break on a CHR in Upstate NY, everyone young and upward thinking had a dream of being on Z100... that is the king of the hill, the top of the heap to think New York, New York a bit!

I just don't think audiences that like their station, will be so eager to run someplace else... may be initially they'll flip back at forth at Z commercial times, but as soon as commercials start, or your favorite artists are on Z or Clear Channel has got killer tickets and trips to giveaway on Z... the fans will be back in line, as long as Z keeps its game up and basically keeps being the standard for which listeners like and all CHR dj's want to be!
