92.5 THE BOX flipping formats???

Seeing there isn't anything like 959thebox.com registered and there isn't anything being promoted, I'd say The Box is toast.

I wonder if they would simulcast sports talk from WSPO on 95.9, to have better coverage? The translator at 99.3 could be used to re-broadcast a HD2 signal (if Apex even broadcasts in HD?).

If Apex keeps promoting Kickin' and keeps trying to make it work, I don't think they would have much trouble taking 96.9 down once Cumulus takes over. Why can't Greenville/Spartanburg ever have any action like this! ;D

The rumor is "Chucktown's New #1 for Hip-Hop" is ditching it's Urban format. Don't know how true this rumor is but some change have taken place. Afternoon drive host Tangie Larkin will no longer commute back and fourth on various days from Atlanta to Charleston. Her show will be all voicetracked from Atlanta. Weekender Divine Martino is out. She's headed to Columbus, GA where she will hold down middays at FOXIE 105/WFXE.

Divine Martino might be heading to WFXE or Davis Broadcasting cluster, but I highly doubt they are going to replace current midday Vicky James on Foxie 105 considering she was just given that spot in the past 10 months after being DJ Chip's co-host for years.

Divine told me she is headed to FOXIE in Columbus. Vicky James is headed to 107.3 JAMZ in Greenville to hold middays down middays/APD/MD.

So, any final guesses on what goes to 95.9? I was skeptical at first, but I'm going with AC...perhaps like WWNU 92.1 in Columbia? I would think 101.7 already takes a couple of shares off of 102.5, so a softer AC at 95.9 would put the squeeze on them even more. To be so bland, 102.5 does awfully well. Chuck and a softer AC would both be good weapons against Y.

They are probably trying to strengthen Kickin' because they know Cumulus will likely make 96.9 less competitive after they take it over. I still think it'll eventually be WTMA-FM.

Maybe Moms in the Morning will return but i'm hoping The Box moves to 95.9FM and if that doesn't happen i'll be listening to internet radio more.

I had wondered about a frequency swap but like I said in another post, there isn't anything like 959thebox.com registered like they have done for Kickin' at 92.5, so I don't think that's gonna happen.

Seeing that they blew up a growing classic hits station with lots of potential and great personalities, blowing up The Box wouldn't/doesn't surprise me.

I don't think after all this Sean Mack will still be with Apex. He would fit well on 95sx.

As for 92.5 The Box, they sound real good this weekend with older hip hop mixed in with the new stuff. Im sure tommorrow after 5pm a lot of people will be surprised. Not many people that liked The Box will stick around. Wonder if they keep country on both 95.9 and 92.5 for a little while so people know.

Many of the personalities have spread the news THE BOX is flipping via social networks. If Apex keeps Sean Mack, this'll be his 3rd shot at a new format. This makes no sense that Charleston is only stuck with 1 Urban Mainstream station again. Columbia, Savannah and Augusta have 2 Urbans but for some reason only 1 can survive Chucktown. Maybe its a sales issue.

R.I.P
FOXIE 104.5
94 JAMS
WPAL RHYTHM 100.9
94.3 THE BEAT
POWER 94.3
HOT 98.9
now 92.5 THE BOX

How about Greenville/Spartanburg who just has one Urban station of any type! Such an underserved market here (but some of the locals say otherwise) ::)

They should have started simulcasting 92.5 and 95.9 Friday with new format on 95 tomorrow.

So the B 92 format was around a little over 3 years while The Box format stays around for only 1 year and a couple months. Why does The Box get such a short time while B 92 got a much longer time on air?

Because Apex has different people running it than they did back then. The Apex people change their formats like how Brett Favre has changed his uniform in the last few years.

From August of '07, the only one of their stations with the same format is 99.7. All of their other stations have changed formats. 95.9 twice, 92.5 now twice, WSPO, and 96.1 from 96Wave to Chuck then to 101.7.

That 99.3 could be used for a new format. I've heard it almost to Moncks Corner before the Kingstree station finally comes back in. Good immediate metro reach for them. It also comes in well at the beach.

Kickin' just went on 9 months ago at 95.9. It won't even last an entire school year.

I would have to say the two most stations owned by Apex changing formats are 92.5 and 95.9. Star 99.7 format does fine and so does 101.7 Chuck FM, the flip from Wave to Chuck was a good one. Seems as if Apex does all the format flips. The last time one of the other major stations changed had to be Sunny going country as The Wolf which was when 107.5 left, im not counting Magic going from 101.7 to 107.3 as a flip.

Getting back to 92.5 The Box, was surprised to hear Sean Mack today on The Box. Would think no one would be on the air today.

The stream for 92.5 The Box seems to have went down around 4:15pm. It says playing but no sound at all.

But the stream for Kickin' 95.9 is still working fine.
