92.9 WLXX

Probably a good move. The Bull has dominated the country battle for years and both the "Bear" and WLXX incarnations of 92.9 have been pretty lame. Maybe the Nash branding will liven up the station a bit and make it more current and competitive with WBUL.

WLXX in both of those incarnations has always sounded too old and AC sounding to me in presentation. I get that they were probably going after a slightly older audience than The Bull, but that's not the direction country is moving in. The format is growing younger and much more current intensive and upbeat. Time to embrace what today's audience wants and liven it up a bit. Hopefully Nash will do this.

I'm in the Cincinnati area but in Northern KY where I can hear WLXX and they are running the same evening lineup that Cumulus owned WNNF Great Country 94.1 is. I'm surprised that Cumulus didn't bring NASH FM to Cincinnati first instead of rolling it out to smaller markets like Lexington KY. Here in Cincinnati, B105 is the dominate country station and has been for decades.

I am sure it will be on 94.1 before too long. I did listen to it for a few yesterday... sounds the same, just new name. I still think they have lost the battle with the Bull and should put Z103 or Hot 102 on that dial and make it compete with QQ or the cat.

Hot 93 or Z93

It still boggles the mind how Cumulus took 92.9 from the market ratings and revenue leader and corkscrewed it into the ground with ratings the signal hadn't had since it the days FM had few listeners. The only thing more mind boggling is what they did 175 miles down the road in Knoxville. WIVK owned that town with 30 to 40 shares and billing a million a month. Thanks to Cumulus WIVK is on the verge of no longer being number one twelve plus after 35 years and have already lost the number one 25-54 crown. Plus, a competitor just moved their country format to one of the biggest signals in Knoxville. So it is a good possibility that WIVK will become Nash FM as well.

So a company with a reputation of destroying heritage country stations has created a national country format. Brilliant. Brilliant I tells ya.

Haven't checked out NASH on 92.9 yet...Personally...I've always liked the playlist on "the bear" and the rebranded "wlxx" much better than the Bull's (but I like that added variety of past favorites more than today's country listeners and I understand that).

I'd really like to see 92.9 do better in the ratings...because I've seen it do so well a few years back. I don't know what it would take to make it happen. I think the live and local factor is important, but that's not exactly going on 24/7 on 98.1 either with all the clearchannel syndication in today's industry.

I guess being live and local isn't everything anymore...take 106.3 (a Hot AC in LEX) for example...I'm pretty sure they have live and local mornings and afternoons...and last time I checked...the ratings weren't all that impressive.

It would behoove Cumulus to drop the whole "90's to Now" attitude with country. Also, put the programming back into the hands of the "local" programmer. Not being live in the morning killed this once proud heritage. In Lexington if you're not talking about The Cats in the morning, you've lost the battle before it's even begun.

Walk in that building at 300 West Vine and it's a ghost town. Twitch is the only thing with life in that building.

But start with that hideous music log. Be live, hip and today and "maybe" they can start to take numbers from The Bull.

I programmed for them for a year and if I ever hear another Pam Tillis or Ty Herndon song, I'll throw up.

lol! Pam Tillis and Ty Herndon--that's SO 92.9! You're right...I've always liked that but I only listened occasionally (being from just outside the coverage area). I suppose it is time for them to move on.

They could blow it up and nobody would miss it!

I should say I live here in Lexington and was passing through from 92.1 to get other stations and yes there was static on 92.9 here in town. Oh yeah, I've picked it up in Hazard before. I think it was Ralph.

And I'm sure it stayed static for a while.

There was a back up FM transmitter at tower one at the AM site. The FCC site doesn't indicate a back up facility exist these days.

Bitter, Mark?

It's probably not fair to "out" people on these boards, but as one of thousands who has had their lives wrecked by Cumulus, I would caution anyone who wants to label someone as "bitter." Unless you've experienced the corporate bullying first-hand, you can't imagine the" PTSD" former employees have experienced.

Mark outed himself weeks ago. But my bad for acknowledging that admission.
